or

100 watts pushing two 15" speakers?

100W x 2 15".

Doubling the power gets you 1db I believe, but doubling the surface area of the speakers gets you 4db. Something like that.

Doubling power is +3db, as is doubling speaker area.

In the OP's scenario - it would be the same output (providing that the speaker recieving the 200 watts can efficiently handle it).

Doubling the power is 3dB more power, but it is not 3dB louder to your ear, it takes something like 10 x power to sound twice as loud. My vote is doubling the cone area.

Double the speakers gets my vote. Push more air...

But it is double the speakers pushing half the total wattage (each speaker actually pushing 1/4).

All things being equal (same speaker in same cabinet), it becomes a wash.

One cab pushing 200 watts is the same as 2 cabs pushing a total of 100 watts (50 watts per cab).

3bd is 3db - no matter where it came from...............

Cutting the wattage in half gives you a -3db REDUCTION

Double the speakers gives you +3bd GAIN

They cancel each other out.

Assuming identical speakers the total output would be the same. But they won't sound the same, because two speakers vertically stacked have a better radiation pattern than one, putting more sound in the audience, less on the floor and ceiling.
