Would this be a smart move/deal/buy? (Ampeg content)

I have an oportunity to sell my 2006 Ampeg SVT 810E (USA dark sounding cab as mentioned here), and buy a new Heritage 410 HLF because the shop has the discount price on it. I'd pretty much be getting 1 for 1.

My cab is rather road worn and has some scratches on the side, but it was always a great cab (never noticed it being too dark with my GK 700RB-II) and I love it, but it saddens me how it gets damaged bit by bit moving it in the van to gigs. The front of the cab is pristine though, no damage there. I don't think I really need all that power either in a trio band with a 212 guitarist Marshall box.

So, would this be a good move?
What would you guys do. Keep it?

BTW my guitarist has advised me to perhaps take 4 speakers out of my cab and have a custom made box for it and use 810 only on "big gigs".
But I don't think you can just "saw" Ampeg 810 in half and turn it into 410, the impedance won't be the same, right? And I hate the thought of taking speakers out and medling with the cab.

If you're gonna play bigger gigs, chances are there is going to be PA support. The 410 will be more than sufficient for that or any other gig.

You could just use the top half of the 810 by plugging a speaker cable into the top input. But why lug around that beast if you're only using half?

I say go for the 410

So I read that 410 HLF are very bass heavy. If I roll off the bass on my amp, can I get a tighter low end response? In a nutshell, can you EQ a 410 to sound like 810?

Isn't the 410he basically an 810 with a horn? Get two of these used. I've owned both the 810 and the 410hlf. They are pretty drastically different. You would have to eq pretty heavily. The hlf is a bit of a pain to lug around too because it is a very bulky 410.

Edit- I mean the 410 he is an 810 sawn in half.
You could just spend a few bucks on new skid rails a kick plate, a feet. Even new tolex if you wanted to go crazy, and revamp your 810. Check out fliptops.net

Heritage series 410 is almost 10 pounds lighter than SVT.
It's 76 lbs. Doesn't sound too bad. It does have a tilt back transport, but I'm not sure how well that works for a cab this size.

Be advised that the 410HLF is a completely different sounding cab than the 810E. It goes slightly higher and much lower, but isn't nearly as mid-present. May be your thing, but may not.

I'd personally do it. I had one of those darker 810Es and I didnt like it...traded it and lost about £100 so not that bad.

The HLF is ported, so pretty different to the 810.

I would switch to a 410 and raise it to a agreeable hight. That should do in almost every situation.

Hmmm, so it sounds more scooped.
Anyone have any clue how Heritage compares to SVT series?
I take it it's mostly looks and weight and the fact that it's USA made.
Does it sound good at all without a tweeter? I've never been a fan of tweeters but if this cab is muddy I might have to use it.
