You say you were a professional carpenter before, so it isn't as though you would struggle with the building aspect. If the 2-3 hours extra work is too much you might just want to pay a builder to make you a box.

As a note, you're probably not looking at something that's too a close match. Due to the fact that there doesn't appear to be any porting (so you'd be looking at tube ports), and you'd have to work contingencies for a mid (and mid chamber), and a bracing scheme right out of the gate. I'm thinking that depending upon what you did, it may be in the ballpark of the Avatar TB153 , which is to say...worth it if you're not spending a million bucks to do it.

If you want to put in the effort for a nEARful, do some research on what you'll need for porting, crossover and Mid-frequency speaker setup. Also, as the 3015LF ain't cheap these days, you're looking at putting in at least 200+ per box to get the project off the ground, and you're probably looking closer to 3 or 4 hundred.
Or if that's looking like it's more than you want to spend and do...you could explore the options of using both for non-two-way non-fEARful options...like standard 3015 or 3015OH options.

I figured I would have to re-brace, and add a port to the bottom. Basically take the whole thing apart and start fresh--but for the cost of a six pack, I thought the might be the foundation for something.
I may just get some regular 15s, and make this a pre-fEarful learning experience. Make some mistakes, try things out...then leave them at my practice space. |

I'm thinking "what would these be like if I made some alterations..." not "If I pop some 3015s in these they will be EXACTLY like fEarfuls!"
Actually, I'm hoping they sound like my old Joe's bass cab, which is the...TL606 or something?
I PROMISE I will do more research the closer I get to starting this project! |

So really what you are talking about is the effort required to build the things. By the time you spend the time trying figure out how you can make these into decent cabs, you could build a couple of fEARful flatpacks. It seems to me you are rolling the dice a bit with the pre-made boxes when you could just build the real thing and know you are getting the real deal for your efforts.
