Would you trade your amp for a bass????

Sign in to disble this ad
hey everybody, im have an Eden WT-550 that i like, but i possibly have an equal trade on a Marcus Miller Jazz bass, which ive been wanting for the past few years. in doing this, this would leave me wondering what to do for my next chapter in sound. i love the Aguilar sound, and i have a Tone Hammer that i thought abought pairing with a power amp. or possibly getting a used GK MB2-500 that i used to have, but regret that i sold. i need something in the 300-400 dollar range, which is my budget. i feel the MM for my WT-550 is a good deal, but any ideas from fellow TBers is welcome.

i would do it in a second, but only because i don'l like eden. i don't know if i'd use a tone hammer by itself, but i guess you could. i'd probably go for the gk if i were in your shoes. but i'd most definitely make that trade, yes i would

Sure, why not? And get another MB2-500? Definitely. I'd also sell the Tone Hammer to go towards the GK. I use my MB2 and have no urge to get a Tone Hammer. Plus (as you know) the GK has an XLR out.

Yeah guys i think thats the plan. it is confirmed now and i will be trading my WT-550 for the Marcus Miller. i cant wait!!! i dont want to sell my Tone Hmmer, i love it. i use it to get to get decent tones out of crappy amps as well as for more headroom. i wish i didnt sell my MB2, but i had to pay some bills. i see them all over so they wont be hard to find. but the Marcus Miller is a great bass and i really need a solid, reliable, good sounding four string and that's it. the Eden was good to me from day one and as solid as a tank, but on to better i suppose.

You could totally get a power amp in your price range and run the TH in front of it. I did it for a year with no problems. I had a All Parts Jazz into a Tone Hammer>QSC GX5>500w 115 cab and alway had plenty of volume to spare. i never turned the gain and master past noon.

Yeah man that was my plan....I've had a MB2-500 already and want to try something new. I want to stay on the lightweight side and get one of the new Crown XLS amps...also I hear that with power amps you have too get them high powered in order for them to be sufficient using with bass preamps. For example, my Aguilar GS 212 is 4 ohms and handles 600 watts. I would need a power amp that pushes 1200 watts at 4 ohms to be loud enough for all my gigs. How true is this???

I maxed the gx5 volume and like i said never went past noon on the gain and master on the TH. I pushed 750w into my 500w cab and never had a volume issue. I own a old svt and it would keep up no prob with that when i would get a wild hair and take that heavy thing out for a money gig. I know those QSC PLX amps are light and loud and i would say try one of those, good reviews on here. i got the GX5 because of time, place, right price but was going to get a plx 1804. Off the to of my head the PLX does like 900w at 4ohm or close to it and is 13 lbs.

Edit: on second thought i dont think i had the GX5 past 3 o'clock (75%)on the volume, gain/master noon on TH

Yeah I've heard a lot of good things about the QSC PLX series, but I wanted something lighter so that's why I was looking at the new Crown D Class power amps. Unless I can find a PLX for cheap that is. Can't wait to get this power amp and pair it with my Tone Hammer. So in other words if I have a quality power amp I should be ok, right???

Yeah I think so too. Thanks man... Just wanted some insight from TBers with power amp/preamp experience. I'm going to get one of the new Crown XLS amps.
