I just comeback from the store and i fell in love with two amps. I have a realy hard time deciding betwen the two.

Ampeg Micro-VR head and cab
or Fender Bassman TV 12 combo

They are both tiny amps but BOY! they sound great! Rich impressive tone.

and there was also a bunch of great sounding bass combo all under 600$ (except the Fender)

SWR workingpro 12
GK MB115
GK MB210
....

unless you play in front of large crowd there's no reason to buy large cab and 1000 watt head anymore

Which little amp do you have and LOVE!!!

I've tried some years ago a Warwick bass into the SWR Workingman 12 combo. I remembered me asking the shop owner "I d'like to try this Warwick, but please not into these Hartke combo" (I definitely hate the alu cones). He smiled and plugged the bass into the 12' combo.
I thought the warwick was a nice bass but I was really stunned about the amp !!
This was clear with the lows, precise with the mids, loud enough for playing gigs in middle sized venues and keeping pace with a strong drummer. Light and easily transportable.

If I can score one used for cheap, I'll get one.

I've played the bass for 5 to 10 minutes, put it back on the wall and went to the seller. He looked at me with his smiled and said "so, what about this combo"

two

My "living room" practice amp is a Carvin MB10 and it's amazing. My rehearsal amp is an Ampeg PF-350 on top of an Avatar SB112 and it's killer.

New Portaflex

I have a Hartke 2500 head and like it alot, but hands down, the winner is my Portaflex PF-500.

OK. They're not combos, but with the right bottom, very portable and great sounding.

Genz Benz.

I use a Shuttle 3.0-10T and a Shuttle 110 Extension Cab. I flip out the foot on the bottom of the combo and set it on the other cab so it tilts up at me. I can hear, and the extension cab gives me the full 300 watts and a little more bottom and more full sound.

Little or big, I can't see myself using anything but Genz Benz in the future unless something really special comes along...but my guess is that it would come from Genz Benz.
