Wrong-gauge on Neutrik plug?

Sign in to disble this ad
Is it possible I got a wrong gauge?

http://www.neutrik.com/fl/en/audio/2...-B_detail.aspx

The back cover is too thin for the standard cable including the rubber-part to go through. Dang?

Those have premium strain relief that is sized for a single wire gauge. Can you return/exchange it? Can you use the plug without the strain relief?

I called the shop, they have no problem exchanging it for me. I was just hoping to use it soon, it'll be at least a week before I go to Tel Aviv again...

Anyway, single-wire-gauge. What kind of gauge am I looking for than?

There's a point about cutting the chuck in the Assembly Instructions I accessed there. With that, & if you can ram the cable through the boot, it should work. I've never worked with them though.

The problem starts with "A- Slide the boot onto the cable"... :P

Hi.

That's strange??

I have never had any problems with Neutrik connectors, and I have used plenty.

It's however possible that the boot material has more plastic content on Yours, and for that reason, the lack of flexibility makes the cable hard to push through the small hole there is. Can You get it through from the "wrong" side?

2 or 3 conductor cables are as easy as 1 conductor IME, as long as the OD of the cable doesn't exeed ~8mm or so.

Regards
Sam

The backside of the boot's hole is no wider than 3mm in diameter where the cable is at least 7mm in diameter..

Just as it should.

Sometimes it's tighter than a ... , but You should be able to push the cable through.

There are alternatives plugs to match your wire's size & provide strain relief. Maybe you should consider a different model plug, or a different brand? Even better, take the cable with you.

Just push it through. I use these a lot, and standard-size cable will go through, even though the hole looks small.

Neutrik doesn't make 1/4" plugs suitable for speaker cables. They make Speakons. For 1/4" speaker cables this is what you need:

Apparently, Neutrik does make 1/4" phone plugs for audio. For convenience, here is the link from the OP.

We can agree the Switchcraft plug is as good as they come. 8-)

For instrument cables, yes. Speaker cables, no.

I can't resist asking to hear the differences. I've always thought them the same.

Instrument plugs won't accept large gauge cables. If you're asking whether instrument and speaker cables are different, they most assuredly are, in every detail. Not knowing that fact can lead to a blown amp.
