wt550 berg ae212 help

is it possible that an eden wt550 would make ae212 fart out?

its not extreme volumes so i just dont get it.
im running eq flat and when i get master half way its starts to do this.
it does it at the same level with 2 ae 212s ( amp at 2 ohms)
also the amp is not clipping.

so the head is 550 at 4 ohms and 750 at 2 ohms
the cabs are 4 ohm 600 watt each so surely both cabs together for a 1200 watt total shouldnt do this right?

maybe these 2 just aren't goona play together at higher volumes.

sounds amazing up until this point though.

really frustrating

First, a cab's power rating has very little to do with a cab 'farting out'. The power rating is just the maximum recommended power the cab can handle before possibly doing thermal damage to the driver. Just FYI there.

I have used the AE212 as my main cab for a couple years now, I totally crank it, with lots of bottom rolled in (sometimes with the massive sounding Glockenklang Blue Soul). I have never gotten it to fart out (it is hard to even get it to compress)

Given that the amount of power into each cab is reduced when you run them both and you still hear the problem, IMO you have a problem with your head. My guess is you are hearing the head distort and identifying that incorrectly as 'driver farting'. The first thing to try is reducing your input gain. The next thing is to try one of the cabs with a different head, achieving the same volume.

You will eventually get the AE212 to compress a little bit if you are massively hammering, but it is impossible (for me, even when slapping hard at high volumes and high wattage) to get that cab to 'distort/fart'.

yep, not a huge concern as i never really play at these volumes but i do have some festival gigs and outdoor shows booked this spring/summer and id like to feel comfortable spanking this rig without that annoying occasional sound.

also, im gonna agree that its probably the amp although as i stated the clip lights dont register when this happens.

thanks

+1. I've pushed the AE212 with heads that size and larger.

If the input signal were off-the-charts hot, then the Eden might be producing well over rated power. However, you'd be seeing the clip light (unless it's broken), and in any event overdriving the Eden's preamp section that hard wouldn't be getting results that you'd like w/ the Eden at lower master settings, so I assume that's not what's happening here.

So while it's possible that the amp could find the limits of the cab, I wouldn't expect it to do so when fed a normal instrument-level signal.

Can you get your Bergs that loud (or louder) without problems with a different head? Do you get similar results from the Eden head with other cabs? Do you get distortion through the headphone or DI outs when the Eden/Berg combo seems to be distorting?

Have you tried replacing the tube? I know it has little effect on the overall sound, but if it was malfunctioning there could be a loose component inside that's causing the "farting".

no enhance

im gonna try another head in a bit.

so you thing this eden can pump more than 750 at 2 ohms?

honestly the fact that it runs 2 ohm stable is the main reason i got the amp.

damn, it sure does sound sweet and punchy up until that point!

When you use both cabs and run the amp at 2ohms, that reduces the wattage to each cab to 375 watts (half of the 750 watts). So, that should eliminate any issue with the drivers being stressed at all, unless you are rolling in massive sub bass. And even then (per my comment above) the cab would compress not fart (i.e., when you really hit a peak or dig in, the low end will reduce a bit, just like a compressor being dialed in too high.

Not sure what is going on there.

When was the last time you replaced the battery in your bass?

More to strike off the checklist:

__ Enhance is full CCW, not at noon.

__ If there's a bass boost button, it's not pressed.

__ You are not playing slap bass (which generates truckloads of subharmonics).

__ You are not playing up near the neck heel (which generates truckloads of subharmonics).

__ You are not playing aggressively (which generates truckloads of subharmonics).

__ Your pickups are not too close to the strings. The pickups of most basses I run across are set much too close.

__ Your AC feed is not being shared by any other devices that also require high current. By "AC feed" I mean the run all the way back to the breaker, so that includes any branch feeds to other outlets.

__ Your extension cord / power strip /power cord is not dodgy.

__ You actually do have "spec" AC voltage at the outlet. Anything lower than 110 (for U.S.) is cause for suspicion.

Nice list. This one would be a good place to start.
