If I have let's say two amps turned up to 100 w rms, will the sound I get out of them equal 200 watts?

First, you don't "turn amps up to 100 w rms". The amp is capable of producing 100 WRMS when it's pushed to that. Now if you have two identical amps plugged into two identical speaker cabinets and push them, they'll produce a total of 200 WRMS the same as if it were a single 200 WRMS amp driving the same speakers.

Of course in the real world, nothing's identical but it's close enough.

this question is a lot more complicated than you think. here's the short answer, it most likely will be louder.

Weird question. Do you have an actual situation in mind with specific amp/speaker configurations, or is it purely in the abstract? Weird either way, but in the former case, assistance may be at hand.

its all about how much air you are moving more than the watts...

are you saying youre running two amp stacks, each at full volume?
if thats the case. you will be louder. but not 200w louder, per se. just louder.

I can see his point. I run two identical 70 watt combo amps. I run my bass into my VT Character series into my old Roland CE-1 Chorus Ensemble. Two separate amps really brings out the lushness of the chorus. I'm plenty loud for our 12x12 bandroom with a loud drummer.

I assume these are combos. If placed atop each other the result will be 6dB louder, the exact same result as 200 watts into a pair of speakers the same as those in the combos.

In general, doubling the wattage will give you a 3 to 6 decibel increase. However, your speakers will also effect this.

Clearly you weren't paying attention to carrot's law.

The correct answer is 39 carrots.

I think it needs to be expressed in parsnips, which are diced parsecs.
