Yamaha PB-1 low output

It has really low, distorted output, even through the headphone section. Where would a rookie like me, start diagnosing? I've already checked the circuit boards for open joints. Thanks!

These units have tons of output.
Not to be mean, but if you have to ask...
Unless you are well versed with this type of circuit repair, it really needs to go go to a tech; not sure if there are any Yamaha proprietary devices in thsi pre.
You may find that it will be cheaper to find a used working unit as the repairs could cost more than a replacement.
BTW, in my experience these things are built like tanks; rare that they fail IME.
John K on this board had one for sale that was mint; might be worth using the search feature in the Amp section to see if it is still available.

I would check all your cables, knob volumes, parametric eq settings & if it is on or off....

Usually, in a case like this, there is just something set wrong. There is no power section to fail and you are getting signal through.

+1 to all this. You might also check the input jack- sometimes they can get bent out of shape so you aren't getting a solid connection with your bass cable.

If it's not cables, input jack, or just a really dirty pot- I would take it to a tech to get it checked out.

Naw, it was just an integrated circuit set wrong. As in failed. Kudo's to Good Guy's on Grand ave in St Paul, Mn for taking care of it.
