Yes, there is a Pro using Line 6 amps. Tim Gaines of Stryper

I had photo passes to the Stryper show this past Sunday. Last time I saw them, everyone had Peavey. Both guitarists, and Tim Gaines. Being a Peavey guy myself, that was cool.

Now they are all sportin' Line 6. Next time, could be someone else!

But it was kind of cool to see a big rig made up of Line 6 stuff. I was down in the photo pit before the curtain went up and was in direct ear-shot of the bass tech tweaking the bass rig. It really sounded killer. Huge sound, clear as a bell, zero noise.

I've seen a few bands (twisted sister being one...) that used Line 6 guitar amps, and honestly, everyone I've heard sounds bad. Just sounds fake at live volumes.

This time, both guitarists were using the new LT (or is it LH?) full stacks. One guy's rig sounded outstanding, very marshall like. Clear as day, would have thought it was a full tube setup. The other guy had a mesa-type tone and it was awful. no mids, very over processed.

So, there you go. Four 4x10 cabs, two heads, and a great bass tone all night long.

Line6 out of the box sounds not so good. Use some of the presets from the community forums and settings from pro's that have had them tweaked they sound great.

Our guitarist just got a HD500 for live shows and most of the presets are junk. He downloaded some community patches and it breathed life.

I wonder who actually does Line6 presets, even direct they sound bad.

On a side note, no one was wearing ear plugs up there. No in-ears either. Tim had all 4 cabinets blaring at him all night. I had ear plugs in all night. Not sure how they aren't deaf after 25 years of doing that.

Glad they got an endorsement deal.
Not that line 6 is "bad",
but it goes to show you that good pro musicians can play through anything and pull the "sound" out for the music.

Actually, I think that would be cool. Every few years, get an entire new rig for free...they might not get to keep all the stuff at the end of the tour. More like a sponsorship for the tour. The lead singer/guitarist seems to be an official endorser for Line 6, seen it in ads a few times. But still. Very little talk of the HD bass heads. Now if they weren't 3 rack spaces high, bright silver and uh, kind of cheap looking, I wonder if more people wouldn't try them? If ever there was a company who needs to get with the times it's Line 6. A bass pod pro with class D amplifier built in would rock.

Was the show good... did they use tons of vocal effects.

Out of all the songs I've ever covered.. Stryper stuff may be in the top 10 for fun.

Actually, it was as stripped down as i've ever seen them. Either their backup tracks were broke, or they decided to go stripped. No keyboards, no backing tracks, just the 4 guys up there doing everything. It was kind of cool. No doubt, the vocals were incredible. Lead and backing. Not to mention the guitar playing. Really, overall they are incredibly tight and talented musicians. IMO of course.

Looks like the bass player has three heads. Probably HD750's. They are a great head for the money. I picked mine up used for $300. It is super loud and has so many options for tweaking the tone. Some of the settings are a bit over the top for me but I have plenty of options.

Yes, all three HD750. The third one wasn't turned on, just a backup.

He had the small 4-button/pedal board thing. He tuned up through it a few times, but never switched a single patch.

I have the same floor pedal. Makes it easy to switch between my four preset channels. Also accesses the heads built in tuner and doubles as a volume/wah pedal. For me it totally eliminated having separate effects and tuner pedals.

Phatty from Family Force 5 also uses Line 6 heads... and his tone sucks.
