Yet another 'What cab to buy' thread! YAY!
Hey TBers! So, I've been thinking about a new cab and thought I'd throw this out to the community to see what you all think... I have read every thread I can find about these cabs and have acquired some good knowledge but I can't help myself from asking anyway.....
Currently have a Fender American P Deluxe, a GB Shuttle 6.2 head, and a frankenstein 2x10/1x15 set up. (I know, mismatched cabs, blah) Looking to upgrade to maybe 1 solid cab. Looking to spend <$500. Preferably a Neo or something <60lbs give or take. Used/new, doesn't matter. I play in an indie rock cover band (White Stripes, Modest Mouse, Pixies, etc. etc.)
Specifically looking at such cabs as:
GB Focus 410
GK Neo 212
Avatar 410 or TB153
or an older model Eden/SWR/Mesa/GK 410
the things I get hung up on are this...
-Do I want 4ohm or 8ohm. My gut tells me 4ohm since I only want to run 1 cab to get more out of the amp but then I read guys saying they prefer the sensitivity of 8ohm regardless and the little more juice from the amp is negligible?
-I lean towards a 410 but constantly read about people saying 410's generally have a mid scooped sound (which isn't necessarily bad) - That seems weird to me in theory since I would think that 10in speaker would represent mids well. My 2x10 I would say is very mid present.
Any feedback/opinions on 410 vs 2x12 vs 15/6/3 type thing. Any other opinion or input on cabs or cab selection.
Planning a trip to the local GC soon to try some things but GC is not really the best place to really get a feel for something...
