Yorkville 8x8 - wow.

Just a rant about a cab I fell in love with ...

The first time I played at a local rehearsal studio I played through a Yorkville 8x8 cab. I didn't really pay much attention to what it was at first, I plugged into the head (Bassmaster 800) and just figured it was a taller 4x10. The sound was just great and when we were done I looked closer and discovered it was an 8x8.

Last night I got to use the cab again, this time I brought my LMII to use with it, and it just blew me away once again.

I'm not a fan of 4x10s, I currently play through 2 Epi PS-112s, I like them, but this 8x8 cab was just so right with my LMII and 55-01 bass. I set the VPF at a little over 9 o'clock, the highs just a hair below flat and everything else flat. The horn on the cab was turned down to about 8 o'clock.

The sound was full and balanced with more than enough lows, it handled the B without problems and cut through in a very musical way without ever sounding muddy. Totally smooth and punchy. If it weren't for the weight of this thing I'd be selling some stuff right now to get one. I could actually deal with hauling it and getting it to my car - it has wheels - but I'd have to store it in my basement so taking it up and down the stairs would never work for me. Maybe I could talk my wife into letting it have its own corner in the living room.

Why don't we see more 8x8 cabs around? Traynor is making this as the TC808 these days, for you guys who have played through many different cabs and know this one - what's comparable?

I did hear of that one, I wonder why it was discontinued. I guess there's not enough demand for an 8x8 bass cab these days.

Don Oatman at LDS in (or around) Detroit has built a lot of different cabinets using 8" drivers of various types (8x8 included).

I'd love to have a lighter-weight remake of the SWR Henry 8x8 using premium parts and I think Don would be the man to make it happen.

Agreed wholeheartedly ... the Yorkville XC808 (same company as Traynor, just a bit older, and grey instead of black cab) is my main cab with the 800H head. Deep bass but nice and tight ... "cut" is what the cab is all about.

Fits in the back seat of my Hyundai Sonata without a problem

EXACTLY ... take it from me, it's not that intrusive in the corner of the living room!
