Thumbs up YORKVILLE BASSMASTER 400

Sign in to disble this ad
About 5 yrs. ago I decided since I was now working in bands that were using full production & I was being run thru the system,I could get rid of my SVT. I went back to using my old Peavey 400 watt head & single Black Widow single 15 bottom [An unbelievable good sounding rig,BTW] Then a guitar player/Collecter of all that is musical I met had picked up a newer model Yorkville Bassmaster 400 [Single 15 combination-Removeable rack-mountable head] He brought it to a gig for my "Expert opinion" & I loved everything about it,except the contour feature. I offered him a ridiculously low price & he said "OK-you will get more use out of it than me" I have been using it ever since. When I play bigger gigs & run thru the board I side-wash it toward me & the drummer & when I do smaller gigs I point it out to the crowd. Works & sounds great whenever I plug it in,no matter if I use my P bass or my Ibanez 5 string & I don't need a van anymore. Just sharing this cuz it seems so many players lug around a bunch of "Overkill" or else a 100 watter the same size as my Yorkie with not enough power & no headroom. Anyone else out there using one? I've only seen one other here in MPLS in use at a club gig....

Greetings from the North,

I've used one on a few occasions and always had good results. The players I know that own them like them for their great sound and ruggedness. It's a dependable combo that gets the job done. There are plenty of them up here.

Actually one of the church's that I played at had one as a house amp ... I liked it a lot ... they had it on an amp stand and we ran it sideways also, using it into the house as well ... this was up in Northern MN ... then a few years ago, I went to an indoor midget (car racing) show down in New Richmond, WI, with a concert after and the bass player was using a new American Standard jazz through one of these with an extension 115 and it really sounded good ... no PA support ...

Wink

I was lucky enough to pickup a Bass Master 400 for $350. I love the sound, dependability and the fact I don't have to lug an amp the size of a fridge around to gigs. I think Yorkville is great value for the dollar - that is until more people start to hear about it

They for a very long time, over 15 years.
Excellent amps, powerful and straight to the point, ideally sized.
Much better than today's hybrid Traynors if you ask me.

I got my Yorkville 400B combo for $250 a few weeks ago. A couple of my friends have them also so I knew what I was getting and love the sound and output of this amp. I'm running the Line Out to the PA and using the amp as my monitor most of the time. Sounds good and it's tough. I'm happy.

It's a shame they retired it. Every one I've played has made me wonder why people went GK over these time and time again.

If only that contour were a knob and not a switch.

Because nothing Canadian made can possibly be as good as US made items!

Really sad that folk think that.

Back in my death metal days I ran two of these with matching 15" extension cabs for a total of 800 Watts (program mind you) and 4-15's. They were indestructible and sounded thunderous. I never could use the contour switch but instead I used the very useful graphic eq to shape the sound. I kind of wish I had kept one now.....

In Store Used USED YORKVILLE BASS MASTER 400 COMBO W/BC115 CAB and more Bass Amplifiers at GuitarCenter.com.

Is this same amp you guys are talking about? I've been looking for reviews on the one I just linked, I'm seriously considering buying it.

I have one as well/

AWESOME amp. Lotsa grind if you want.
Agreed, contour suxx.
great EQ.
Limiter so/so.
no speakon output. 1/4" only.
big finned heatsinks-no fans/noise.
tone reminds me of 80's Hartke.

LOVE mine.
Bulletproof.

Traynor tube amps are rated right up there with all the classic tube rigs.
Great North American quality at affordable prices.
lotsa used around and good service close at hand.
I don't know why EVERYONE'S not playin Traynor/yorkville

I found one of these in a pawn shop for $99. Could not get the money out of my pocket fast enough. Great amp. The only downside is the blue fur.

BassikLee - $99??? Man what a steal!!! I woulda scraped together all the change I had by any means necessary to get it.

This definitely was a great amp especially when paired with the 15" speaker. If you are Canadian and played bass in a rock band within the last 10-15 years then you for sure used one of these at some point.

My first gig worthy rig was a Yorkville...exactly like this but with two 10" speakers. Ahh memories...if that blue carpet covering could talk

I owned the 800w version of that head and it was the best head I ever played through! Only got rid of it to join the micro head craze! I should have kept it! Besides the sound and volume, I loved the fact that it can run at 8, 4 and 2ohms!

I had the 400B bass head for many years and loved it. I wish I had never sold it. Simple, Built like a tank, and sounded great.

I have the 800 head too. That one is the hybrid. These old 400s are all solid state. I was a yorkville dealer for several years, had I biggish yorkie PA, lots of their backline too. Yes,$99 for the combo was too good to pass up, needed or not.
