Yorkville BassMaster XS400TC 15" combo vs. Behringer 4 x 10 stack.

Someone is selling me a Yorkville BassMaster XS400TC used, asking $500 Canadian flat

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ct?sku=481296X

Should I try to Barter him down? My alternative was to get one of these http://www.axemusic.com/product.asp?...=6028&PT_ID=70 with a 4 x 10 cabinet, which would work out to slightly more.

I play in a rock trio with an insanely loud drummer, mostly I do bass but sometimes keyboard (which I don't mind having a bass amp for). My main concern is being heard and hearing myself over the drummer when we play gigs, mostly small gigs for which our drummer is too loud (not that I'm asking him to change).

Iggy Pop and the Doors seem to be our thing recently, so I'd like to have some grungy distortion to it, but at the same time I love super low-end that you can feel.

I sold mine a yr ago for $400, that's a nice solid combo amp; I would not compare it to the Behringer.

Find the matching 15" ext cab when you decide you need more volume.

Behringer has been a name synonymous with poor quality. The market would like us to think we are getting comparable gear at a killer price, but this is not the case. Everyone I know that has ever used Behringer products-including bass amps, PA mixers and speakers, and pedals, have all been very dissatisfied with the quality. Yorkville has been around forever, and for good reason. Tank-tough, great sounding, reliable gear. Go for the Yorkie, you won't be sorry.

Ok thanks a ton guys. I should've figured that out since my first amp which was a Behringer broke.

His original asking price was $539, and I asked if he'd take $500 flat, no tax. He said yes, and than I talked to him about the specs, found out it comes with a 15" speaker rather than 2 x 10, and no pedal included (effects are pedal switchable).

Do you think I should ask if he'll take $450 now? or if he'll take $500 and throw in a gig bag? (I'm using a sleeping bag for my bass right now). Or is it bad practice to ask for a better price and than ask again?

Also, I found this http://www.axemusic.com/product.asp?...20890&PT_ID=69 Peavey 600 watt with crunch, also for $500 with free shipping, and this one would be new, so there would be a potential warranty.

So a 400 watt Yorkville with tube preamps, or a 600 watt Peavey with "Crunch switch adds tube-like crunch effect". Do the tube pre-amps do enough for me to sacrifice 200 watts and take used over new?

Or I could go with this http://www.axemusic.com/product.asp?...24102&PT_ID=69 Fender Rumble 350 watt, has overdrive/distortion, and seems to be tailored to the kind of tone I want; although I prefer the sound of 1 x 15s to 2 x 10s, from my experience. The other main factor in my decision wasa that the yorkville goes has a frequency response of 20hz - 20khz, +/-3db; I've only seen that in headphones. I'm in love with ultra low-frequency; I don't know if it would make a difference to my bass tone, but my keyboard can go infinitely low if the speaker can handle it.
