"Your cab is so ugly even GC won't take it!" + New [to me] amp / cab day!

Sign in to disble this ad
My band's old bassist didn't want his Avatar 115 that's been resting in my drummer's basement soooo... I took it, for free of course!

But! The Alpha Bass head I bought from blendermassacre and my SVT-II only do 2/4 ohms. I had only that 8 ohm Avatar and my 4 ohm 810E. What to do?

I went to GC to trade in my free Avatar towards a better cab. I liked the Genz Benz 610 and the 610 HLF. I don't need another big Ampeg cab and the Genz is nice soooo...

I tried to trade in the Avatar but they said it was too ugly! They gave me 15% off of the price of the [used] Genz and said keep the cab. All in all, not a bad day. I got my new tubey head, a 98% as new cab for half price, and an "ugly" coffee table!

(Washed out photos ahead!)

And now, the moment of truth: The ugly Avatar!

It's hairier than my ex-girlfriend! (I kid, I kid...)

It has character! Just not the kind I like. So it'll soon be on the TB classifieds and CL.

They probably couldn't find a reference sale price on ebay to offer you 40% of, so skeeeered of it.

If I had the cash, I probably would have bought one. Or I could've just bought the Tele I want and the cab...

Kind of hard to compare the ugliness of the cab to your Xgf
without the pic of the Xgf, you know?

And, daisy chained together the 4 and 8 ohm run at 2.67 ohm
with 2/3's the juice going to the 4 ohm cab. What was the problem running that rig?

You just WANTED the new cab right? C'mon, admit it, GASfession is good for the soul.

Heh, just made up a new word. GASfession: Admitting your GAS and being forgiven by your fellow bassists. (Your wife/gf need never know.)

GASfession: I went there with intention to buy a top half to the Avatar or trade it toward a beefier cab.

After running the 610 / Alphabass together, it rattled the walls. I don't need a dainty 115 to suck power away from the 610. However, if I come across one of those Ibanez Prometheons in the next few days, the 115 may have a new lease on life!

As for the ex gf, I lost those pictures loong ago.

There's a Peavey Black Widow 4 ohm selling locally here, but a 15" Delta LF... I might be sold!

I'm considering it. I had in the classifieds for a second but then thought about adding an Eminence Delta LF (so it's 4 ohms and booms a little better) and keeping it as a standalone cab for either the SVT-II or Alpha Bass. Right now my 6x10 / 8x10 cab choices are more than I can move comfortably or without causing some damage to the cabs. (I have stairs and a GMC Jimmy I need to load into.) I wouldn't mind one I can lift with one hand and throw around...
