ZT Amplifiers Announces Bass Stack - Premier Guitar

"Berkeley, CA (April 12, 2011) -- ZT Amplifiers, known for their line of compact, portable Lunchbox amps, has announced their first foray into bass amplification with the ZT Bass Stack. The top section of the stack is a 400-watt bass combo amp with a 1x12 woofer, with two paper cone tweeters in a sealed box. The combo is designed to replace any 4x10 cabinet and 400-watt head in power and output with a weight of only 35 pounds. The powered extension speaker below features the same drivers and power as the combo amp. Together, the stack is around 2 1/2 feet tall.

ZT estimates that the stack will be available in late summer at an estimated price of $999 for the combo and $699 for the extension cab."

Opinions????

I took part in evaluations of the ZT Lunchbox and Club guitar amplifiers. Tests done by a member of the group indicated the advertised power was highly optimistic. Beyond that, the tone was lacking (in my opinion, of course). They were notable for being really small and light but, in comparison to my Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight, did not sound that good and the designer had made a couple of idiosyncratic choices for the effects and tone controls. You understand that some people are in love with them.

As for a bass amp, I checked out the ZT web site and I don't think they are doing anything my Genz-Benz isn't doing already, at a lighter weight and for less money (Shuttle 3.0-10T + another 10T cab ran me $1219, with a weight of 18 lb for the Shuttle 10.T and another 11 for the extension cabinet). Both my own G-B and a friend's 6.0-210T sound very good, and it's unlikely that I'd change to the new one. Just my virtual $.02.
