I'm a French professional bass player (Local...not rich,not famous...LOL!!!)
I'm about to trade my 6 strings Noguera with that beautiful SKB 3006 #5054 (see pics) owned by a fellow...
I'dlike to have more information about this bass...
of course year of construction...

Neck Wood: Maple /Purple heart
Fretboard: Macassar ebony
nut : ???
Body: Spanish cedar
Top: ???? Dunno...help!
Color: Natural... & Gorgeous!
Bartolini pics
Aguilar OPB 3 preamp (Vol, Blend, Bass/Treble Stacked Pot, High & Low mids in a push/pull pot)
Switch sc/hb or serie/parralel ? seeking information
Hipshot Bridge (Alum...) Gotoh tuners...

my first impression when i opened the case was : Wow...
the neck is speed & comfortable... but I have the bridge saddles dropped flat out onto the bridge, the neck is almost dead flat and the action is too high ... Perhaps i could shim the neck (i've read a post about that...)
it sounds great... maybe because it's a heavy bass (5.3kgs) ...will my shoulder stand for it? LOL..i guess yes!+++

Reason: more info
Beautiful bass! I'm not sure how nice a Noguera bass is but I do know that you just acquired one of the nicest basses money can buy!
As for the action issue, you are correct, shimming will be required to get the action down. No big deal though. Fortunately on bolt on designs it's a do-able option!

Joe, have you or any others here tried replacing the stock bridge with a lower profile Hipshot, rather than shimming the neck? A friend of mine did that with his SKB, and it worked out really nice. I find the stock bridge is a little too high..

hi,
The Noguera is gorgeous too,but completely different...
alder body ,Maple neck & fingerboard, Crel SC mics with Noguera Preamp, 34" scale, 20mms string spacing at bridge... another world... 0.8 kg lighter...
designed by Yves Carbonne (Famous URB player) ...sound like a 6 string jazz bass...
i just needed something different, cos' i already have a BN5 (F Bass) which is a slap machine...

Changing bridge may have been a solution...but it means buying... using 1/4 of a credit card is less expensive, easily do-able & removable thing, in my opinion...
last but not least; it doesn't change sound, hopefully!
Here's what Mr Guard told me about the bass
:"I actually know that one well, it used to belong to a very close friend of mine here in NC for a good while, he was the original owner as a matter of fact.
Here are the specifications:
SKB 3006
Boxelder Burl Top
Spanish Cedar body
Natural finish
Demeter 3-band preamp
Katalox fingerboard
Diamondwood nut
Black hardware
The bass was finished in April of 2004..."
So,it previously had a Demeter preamp onbard... if anyone is interested in trading my OPB3 with a demeter...let me know!

Jason,
Finding the correct HipShot bridge would be the problem. HipShot makes many custom bridges for various manufacturers and while there may be one that they make that would be suitable, identifying it and getting it might be an issue. I suppose that HipShot might be able to help since they are familiar with the Roscoe version and might be able to quickly ID one with just slightly lower saddle positioning. The fact that they have staggered plate thickness (under each saddle) and that some basses have different finger board radii would complicate it even more.
I'd like to change tuners for my Skb3006 which has a bit of head dive...
i just wonder if i have to order the HB6Y - 1/2'' Y Key Ultralite or the 3/8" model...
I've read that they are only 1.88 oz. (53.30 grams).
my SKB3006 in gotoh equipped ,so that should make a remarkable difference ,& probably change the center of balance...
the 2nd and main question is... will it affect the sound of my bass...?
some says yes,other...
brass ou aluminum bridges doesn't sound the same...so what about the tuners?
best regards from france...

Reason: lost in translation...LOL
This bass sure looks familiar. Didn't this belong to Arnold Perry, then Sheldon Pugh, BassThumpa then?
I had a chance to play this bass. This bass is beautiful in person and it is a pretty aggressive sounding bass. Even with the Aggie turned all the way down, it still has lots of mids. This bass will cut through any mix with no problem.

Now i play that bass,i don't wonder why nobody kept it...
3 previous owners in U.S...but who did not deliver the Allen wrenches to my fellow.. ...cos yes they are missing... i'm looking for here but U.S sizes doesn't seems easy ti find..
so I'm the 5th owner... & I'm glad... my ex-Noguera was lighter but i prefer the Roscoe sound & feel in spite of his weight...
now looking for the hipshot tuners... if anyone is interested in a trade with gotoh...just let me know too...
the "funny" thing is : the guy i bought my Noguera had a Roscoe SKB 3006(see pics),i played this bass some minutes, and was very impressed...so when i hear about the 5054 trade proposal... now it's mine...
& now that bass (below not mine) is for sale in France...

I wouldn't worry about the whether the bass had 2-3 previous owners. 6 string basses as a whole have a habit of moving around various owners. Lot's of 5 string players love the idea of owning and playing a 6 string but in the end they're not for everyone. I'd say that you're the lucky one that loves playing the 6 string and wound up with one awesome 3006 Roscoe!
You probably won't find anyone willing to trade some Hipshot tuners for your Gotoh. If you give Gard a call I bet he can fix you up with some HipShot tuners at a reasonable price.
Now i play that bass,i don't wonder why nobody kept it...
I had a six string and the only reason I didn't keep it was because I broke a small bone in my wrist and it caused me discomfort to play. If not for this reason I would still be playing a 6 string.
I am just glad that Roscoe makes 5 strings that sound just as sweet as the 6 strings.

but best solution is playing seated...LOL... fortunately i'm doing jazz things that allow me that...
i'm testing DR black beauties strings... they are nice but i might try other brands... any advices ?

Reason: pics minks not working
I've always found that a good strap can really help with a bass that dives. A nice 3+" wide leather strap that has a suede backing will actually grip your shirt and keep the bass in position. Levy's makes a great 3.5" wide strap called the M4GF-BLK. The BLK means black, and I think there's also a brown version (-BRN?). It sells for a little over $40 here in the US.
I'll agree with Greg about getting a strap that doesn't "slip" too much. I've been very happy with Comfort Strapps, they really ARE comfortable, and they don't seem to slip & slide too much.
On the strings, I've been using the DR BB's for about 5-6 years now (was a beta tester), and really like them a LOT. However, they are not for everyone.

+1 on the comfort strapp. It definitely stays in position on your shoulder (no slippage).
I tried the DR Black Beauties 4 different times before I totally liked them. My problem with them was the tacky feel. In the end though, I do really like the growl and the slap tone (and they look real cool).
I tried the TI flats and thought that they had a nice unique sound, but only used them on one of my fretted basses when I had multiple Roscoe's. The were a cool alternative but I'm more of a roundwound guy.
Plus, they are very expensive!
Hi everybody... it's been a long time...
after nights of reflection, hours of desperation (lol, not really but...), long moments of hesitation... i've finally did not sold that bass...hahaha... but there's a new fact... i had the luck to find some wonderful & lighter tuners... from a famous Japanese brand... usually only used by a fretless bass player name Gary W.
& wow... at 1st it almost solved my head diving trouble... (let's say it's solved...!!! trust me!!) there's a huge weight difference!!! & that's the most important..using a comfort strap is helpful too (according to ...see below...)
& 2nd, last but not least! it make that bass even more gorgeous (if that was even possible..)... here a (bad!) pic, i let ppl judge by themselves...
i "experienced" the DR black beauties (medium). personal taste... Wonderful visual effect, but not my sound , no my touch...finally, i might be back to the elixir...
So i have just one question for all the bass players around... what string gauge do you use & why ???
On a 34" scale bass, i liked a 130-45 set or 125-40 (5strings)... on a 35" i fell like i could use lighter gauges...
i could spend my life testing strings & different gauges...
Now i'm wondering if i should change the P.U. i was really impressed by some of the Roscoe Sound Clips... specially by some with Delano P.U. & fortunately there's the official Delano dealer near me...
