The family...

Black Beauties going on the fretted soon as well.

I don't think I'll ever need another bass (... Or maybe I could find room for a Century 6 with J pups...?)

2 rehearsals in with the fretless - WOW! The Roscoe Barts with that Burl top have so much punch! Compared to the CB's and all ash of my standard the sound of this is so much fuller and more aggressive. As I'm an effects man, I'm happy to report that this is the first bass that has allowed my Boss OC2 to trigger correctly on every string higher than the 5th fret - Seems the frequency response of this bass has just enough low mid and muted top end to perform stunningly through my drum & bass set up.

Tonally this bass is worlds away from anything else I've played or owned. You guys REALLY nailed it on this one!

Man! Those are two beautiful Roscoe's. Absolutely the best of both worlds! (fretted & fretless). Your fretted has always been one of my favorite looking 3006 basses (along with my own! ).

Excellent pictures too!

A truly beautiful pair.

But how come the fretless is up for sale already -- that is the same bass up with Bass Direct, yes?

You must have something VERY special up your sleeve to follow these?!

Both my basses are in bass direct - both are stunning and I love them both to bits. Letting go of either, especially this Fretless is going to be agony, however the move is being made for medical reasons.

I have been struggling with Tendonitis for some time, which has now moved onto triggering in 3 fingers and has also highlighted some shoulder issues due to hyper extension in some joints. If you have aches and pains do not ignore then folks - get checked out.

I'm currently cooking up something ergonomic with a few tweaks that I have highlighted as helpful to my condition, as well as a much shorter scale.

When details are confirmed and the formal order placed, I'm sure more details will be posted.

Very sad to see these go - but I have to accept that playing long scale instruments with wide necks is making my situation worse.

Man, I really feel for you. I was so hoping you weren’t going to say that.

The aches of playing can be bad enough, but I can’t imagine the agony having to part with such beauty, particularly after all your investment. At least you had some fun watching the fretless grow over the past year – you really know how to spec an instrument, that’s for sure.

All sympathies to you, and I hope you find a workable solution that enables you to keep playing.

All the best.

Cheers bud.

I've spent the last 3 months facing facts. I've totally changed my technique, unlearning 12 years of playing and trying to perfect a Gary Willis style and literally applying a 3rd of the pressure to the string. I'm also seeing a chiropractor who has identified a major imbalance in my hips and shoulders due to my body shifting balance to accommodate my short arms on a long neck.

I've got a new bed out of it all though

On top of all of these things I've also made it my mission to play as many different instruments as possible and draw up a list of things that make my issues 'easier', either in allowing less pressure to areas, less reach, or in less obvious ways (like making the change in technique easier).

I went to Germany at Christmas and spent and entire day in Musicstore (Europes largest music megastore) and played almost every possible make, shape and scale of bass out there, plus have spent time with as many bass playing friends with interesting instruments as possible. Its let me realise a few thongs that I 'like' about basses that dont actually help me, and a few things I never thought of that make quite a difference. The result is a 'perfect spec' for an instrument, be it a little unconventional in places.

I asked Gard if the spec was possible. The answer - "Of course"

As for knowing how to spec a bass - That comes with experience and of course the expert hand of Gard! I'm very thorough in the small details, ask sooooo many questions that I'm sure folk get sick of me, but it means the result is well thought out.

It always is with Roscoe I'm looking forward to what you're cooking up! I've got something brewing in NC, too. Probably not nearly as unconventional as you, but something that hasn't been seen yet...

Interested to see what you're working on as well!

I'm looking to be a 1 bass family after this move. Live and breathe and instrument that makes life easier. I'm going to miss having a fretless though I think. I'm in the tough situation where I love the fretless, but appreciate that a fretted has the added versatility. Either work for what I do right now, but there are times that the Fretless just doesn't fit in when I dep etc...

Hopefully I'll have the order in this week so I should be able to confirm a spec soon.
