I have a 33" scale E-C bass that will be done towards the end of this month. Never had a C string on a bass, and the only short scale I owned was a 30" Mouse. I figure what the hell, and my tendons will thank me...

I've used a high C (as a 6 string player) for a number of years and over the last 2 years, as I've spent more and more time just doing one musical project, I've used the B less and less. At the start of the year, in anticipation for this new bass I stopped using the B as anything more than a thumb rest and I have to say, with Our Helical Mind, I don't miss it one bit. I couldn't live without the high C though.
I'm now playing a borrowed 5 sting strung E-C and it just feels 'right' to me to keep it that way.
I did have a jam with a singer song writer a few weeks back which was great to step away from the heavy electronic sounds and just plat bass > amp again for a whole night. There were moments were I thought 'if I had that B'... but the important this was that I don't think he, or the audience, felt that I needed to play lower.
Very excited to see this take real shape over the coming weeks now.

I was a guitard for many years, and even as recently as a few years ago was doing some solo guitar stuff. I have a percussion player I work with and we've been talking about doing some duo gigs, but I need a little more higher register sounds than a regular 4-string.
Or it could all sound like crap and I'll go running back to my 4-string with my tail between my legs

The neck has been CUT OUT and will enter the final shaping process soon. It is "neck shaped" in outline right now, the fingerboard still needs to be radiused, and the back of the neck "hogged" before it's ready for final shaping, then finishing. |

No, no. I just thought that maybe, just maybe you had a typo!
I guess that it's a twist from the "two more weeks" approach! |
