That ebony fretless SKB3005 has potential...for me to sleep in the basement when I get home. I need to go to a jewelry store...

It has honestly turned out to be much nicer looking than I had hoped. I don't know what I am more excited about---hearing how the J/MM setup sounds, or just seeing the completed bass.

^^^

Me, too. I liked the J/MM on my Lakland basses a lot.

Very soon man....the final clear is on it, it has been level sanded and is in buffing now.

Word of warning though: I will be OUT of the office tomorrow (Friday 8 June) and Monday (11 June), getting things at Casa de Lewis ship-shape for the GTG, so there will be no updates for that period, but TUESDAY things will be getting fun!

Well, we're down to less than a week to go!

I've decided I'm not going to bother with shipping my other two basses out there for the GTG, I'll just plan on having this one there. Otherwise, Gard will have 3 basses he'll have to ship off/back to me on the following Monday, and that'd end up being more hassle than it's worth.

I decided to just do my lesson with the new bass. May or may not be a good decision. We'll see I guess.

If I fall for a fretless I may be shipping 2 basses back as well....yikes!

Well, I would have been happy to help out with shipping things back, but you will both be getting some pretty amazing basses when you get here!

This weekend could result in a fretless order for me, like I said. We will see what happens.

I am VERY anxious to try Gard's Standard fretless with the Special pickup placement. I can't imagine that it doesn't kill..........

Use the new bass. That way you have a built-in excuse if you screw up

Technically, we call it the "JB" pickup placement, "Special" is kinda someone else's name for it (but nothing but respect for that "someone"!).

The "JB" can be taken to men "Jazz, Bridge", or in honor of the first person to actually order a bass with this setup - "Jerry Burdick". Either is accurate in our eyes.

...and yes, it just flat KILLS.

I can vouch for that. I played it for 30 seconds and it does kill.

I think you meant WHEN I screw up.
That thought had crossed my mind :-)

We expect the Eagle to land today - sorry for the delay, Bill Bartolini wanted to chat on the phone with Ryan H. (our electronics tech) before he finalizes the preamp/pickup installation, since it's a very new setup for us. Bill was planning on doing this yesterday, but there was some kind of emergency that he had to help someone with (super guy, super people at Bartolini), so we had to wait a bit.
