aguilar pre

So, other than less money in my bank account, switching from
a bart preamp to an aguilar preamp will give me.......?
Pickups are the standard barts (not classics)
THanks.

IMO ......a bit less of a compressed sound (more open sound). I think that you'll hear clearer highs & smoother mids (not as honky or nasual sounding.

Adding to what Joe said... Definitely more aggressive upper mids. This is really a case-by-case thing. On some basses I LOVE this pre, and on others I can't stand it. The good news is it's a fairly inexpensive mod, and if you don't like it you can recoup most of your investment (sans labor, of course) by selling after you swap back.

IMO, if you're lacking some cut in the mix, or otherwise want some 'bark' to your sound, this is worth considering. Otherwise, you may find that it takes a lot of the "Roscoeness" out of your Roscoe. Good luck...

Ive got one in my LG3000 and LOVE it... I will say the highs are very useable but the lows very temper mental....meaning a small amount goes a long way and are almost too much on the upper end. I tend to cut the upper mid frequency and get a real nice warm snarl with plenty of cut...I say go for it...

Sounds great..im debating on dropping in an Aggie in my new CS4 with Bart CB's....I will say Im def. a fan of the regular Roscoe barts over the CB's at this point..
