Amp question-Help!

I need the help of my fellow Roscoe-heads. I am looking at getting an Eden amp, probably the WT550 and I wanted to see what you guys think about this amp. I know that in some of the other forums a lot of people bash the Eden amps and cabinets, but I really trust the opinions of the people who in this Roscoe forum. So what do you guys think of Eden? And is the volume of the cooling fan really that big of an issue? Any help is greatly appreciated...

I owned a wt550 for some time. Yes, the fan was noisey...too much so for me. In a club, you'd probably never notice it. If you want to use it at a wedding or church service, then it could be whirling pretty loud when things get quiet.

As for the cabinets, they are just like any other MFG. Some of them sound great, some of them don't. The 212xlt was my favorite, but it was slightly old school sounding. You may or may not like that. The 410xlt is very nice sounding. The 210xst is okay. The 410xst I didn't care for at all. The 112xlt is very aggressive, which can be nice in some situations. It lacked the low end of most 112's by quite a big margin, so it's usefulness as a stand alone was questionable to me.

If I had a wt550 still, I'd want to keep it in a case to help mask the fan noise.

If I HAD to go out right now and buy an Eden rig, it would be a wt405 and 212xlt. No doubt about it.

IME, way too coloured. It's all personal preference, but I can't stand the "signature" Eden tone that you can't get rid of.

I'm running my babies through an Eden WT 550, Eden D-210MBX (the "wedge monitor" shaped one), and an Epifani UL310 series II.

I love the amp, I REALLY love the Epi, the MBX is nice for what it was designed for.

My goal is to replace the MBX with another UL310 eventually. I'm keepin' the WT 550.

Great sounding amp! As Jeff stated,it does have the Eden signature sound but that is what most Eden lovers like! I found that the amps sounded great run virtually flat with EQ'ing done via the bass on-board pre (other than a twist every once in a while of the enhance control).
I actually never even noticed the fan noise on mine. It never came on much (maybe because I usually just ran it at 8 ohms). I suspect that if you ran it at 2 ohms it might cycle more. The fan on the Eden WT400 that I use at the church is fairly quite (certainly quiter than than the one on the SWR-400 & 500 amps).
The Eden WT550 really does sound great through Epifani cabinets too! I ran a buddies WT550 through a couple of my Epi UL-112's last weekend and it sounded great!
You also may want to check out the TFunk TFB-550B, Epi 502 and Marbass MBII. All great sounding heads that I prefer slightly more in that order.

Indeed, I didn't mean to say that Eden makes a bad product but you do have to like that tone to enjoy the amp. I don't feel it's very versatile because you always land somewhere within the land of "Eden tone".

Joe's just named 3 very comparable heads spec wise to the Eden but they all do something different (IMO: TFunk=punchy, Epi=ultra clear, Markbass=neutral leaning toward punchy).

A lot of this comes down to matching heads and cabs too. Do you already have speakers you want to use, or are you investing in a whole new rig?

I have just gotten lucky and come across an Aguilar GS410. So, I am looking for an amp to run through it. My band plays all kinds of music, from classic rock to Texas county rock, but I try to bring a "bluesy" feel to my music when appropriate. As far as my Roscoe goes, it is a fretless 5 string with Nordstrand pickups and a bartolini preamp. With this info, what sort of amp would you recommend?

That is "all kinds" of music? Sounds like a pretty narrow genre to me - which is good in terms of selecting gear to make it work.

Definitely something middy and warm for that bluesy feel you mention. The GS is a pretty scooped cab, so maybe something like the Thunderfunk might work. I'm a big Markbass fan, and they could certainly do the job with a bit of EQ use
