Another Roscoe Preamp Question

OK, Just got my skjold with the custom John East preamp and I love the versatility of it. Sounds great to. It's four banger so don't worry it won't replace #5316. Passive/Active, 4 pickup selector (single bridge, single neck, series, parallel) and variable mid selector and bright switch (push/pull).

So I am wondering if anyone has pondered pairing a U Retro 4 knob (2 switches) or U retro 5 knob with the stock barts (in their roscoe of course)? With the first 2 holes would have to be drilled and the second only one. Wonder what kind of tonal possibilities this would open for the roscoe. Does anyone know if this would work and sound good?

Well since no one else is going to take a stab at it.....

I haven't tried a U Retro in a Roscoe but I would think it would sound nice. Brian @ Bestbassgear might be able to provide some feedback as to how they match up with the Bart p/u's.

I've heard some players rav about the East pre's while others compain that it requires to much tweaking to go from one sound to another....

I know that from a functional standpoint the East pre should pair fine with the Bart p/u's but as to how they would sound paired in a Roscoe.............

If you give it a shot let us know how it goes.

Whew, I was beginning to think I posted a taboo topic. I agree that there are alot of configurations/possibilities on my Skjold and I haven't figured out my favorites yet. For some, just the number of options may be too much, and dialing in setting might be challenging in the live setting. With all the preamp changes by roscoe owners I was just wondering if someone else has tried an east preamp. In my head I am thinking the east/bart would be good, but wondering also about east/nordy combo. I will email Brian and see what he has to say. I really wish Gard would chime in.

I've always thought that the Skjold/Retro pre would be very cool in a Roscoe. It's a very good pre, but like the Audere, it takes a bit of playing around to get used to.

Saluki -

Since I've never heard the East pre, I really am not comfortable in trying to comment at all about it. I do know that Pete makes a great bass, and I've heard nothing but wonderful things about them, so I'm sure he uses an excellent preamp.

It would take a lot for us to add another preamp to our option list here in the shop right now, we're VERY happy with the overall options we have.

My thought would be that you should be able to get the same effect from the Audere, even though we're not talking about an apples to apples comparison. It might be something work looking into if you haven't done so already.

OK, I am going to first try the Aguilar pre, based on some info from Jome and Brian (bestbassgear), before doing anything drastic. The east preamps will require one ore two holes being drilled. I don't think I can handle that on my beautiful roscoe.

I am willing to trade my bart preamp to another Roscoehead for the aguilar if interested. If I end up buying one before anyone responds, I would be willing to let a fellow Roscoehead take the bart for a test drive. PM if interested.
