AxePort Pro

Anyone here tried this?

http://centrance.com/products/ap/

I trust the straight up opinions here more than reviews and/or endorsers....

I hadn't heard of it...sure looks like a cool device, and doesn't seem outrageously expensive. Sorry I have nothing of value to add to this thread (imagine that ) but thanks for introducing me to this.

There's a first time for everything....

....and this wasn't it.

(I'm going to agree with Jerry, seems like a pretty useful tool...wish I could contribute somthing meaningful...)

Yeah, compared to the Apogee Duet; a third of the price, same specs on the sample rate and bit width too.... Of course Apogee converters are legendary though... The only sound samples they have on the site are Mark Egan and Doug Johns... Both samples sound like they typically do, but, I don't really like their sounds to begin with... And they both play Pedulla's on the tracks which I'm also not fond of. I guess from that you could conclude they produce an accurate reproduction - but, I'd like to hear someone with a bigger tone have at it.

+1 with interest. I don't need a DAW. The AxePort Pro looks like what I want but, I haven't gotten a look at the bundled recording software or heard a non-professional's review. I just need to produce an MP3 track to go with a collaborator's mix.

I'm hoping it is as simple to use as my long gone Tascam 8 track. Logic & Sonar make me a little crazy.

Quite intriguing, I must say.

It'd sure be nice to be able to skip a lot of hardware and go straight to my 'puter's USB ports and into Audacity or Ardour. I might have to snag one and be the "Guinea pig" on this one.

They're putting some marketing muscle behind it, that's for sure (which doesn't mean squat as far as its utility/quality is concerned, of course). Other than Jerry, they've got many of the big name bassists on-board.

I used to use one of these, same idea, but much cheaper.

And into Audacity, I must pull it out and try it through Cubase, as I'm using a Yamaha Audiogram6 at the moment, and thats a lot of machine for a quick lick or soundclip, which is most of what I do.

I have one and it works well with my MacBook. Wet or Dry input. I use it to perfect my technique. LOL.

Well I just pulled the trigger on this thing and should have it in my hands in a day or two. Even just to be able to clip it on my strap and walk around practicing is just the coolest. I was thinking about getting a headphone amp anyway.
I went to the Manf. website and they wanted $20 for shipping which is just ridiculous for this tiny thing. So after a brief search I ended up at Musicians Friend and got it there with FREE shipping! SCORE!
I wanted to buy it locally but after calling all the big music stores here in Portland no one knew what it was or had it. I had to laugh when the guys at GC recording dept.haden't even heard of it and they own MF. LOL
I've never really thought about getting a headphone amp for practice till I went to the Hood River GTG a couple of months ago. I played one there, I don't remember the brand but I was really impressed with it and that got me to thinking. Maybe I would practice a little more if it were more convenient. I have also wanted to get into recording on the computer so this seems perfect to kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone.

anyhow I'll let you all know how it works when I get it

I am interested as well. One question though - does it have to be hooked up to the computer via usb just to use for private practice with headphones? Or can one just plug up with the headphones and use it that way?
Thanks,

Thanks,
it has to be hooked up via usb because that's what powers the unit...mine came with a 6' usb cable, but i imagine you could buy a much longer one for private headphone practice because the latency issue is null with the way this unit works for this purpose...
