Back in the Roscoe Queue…….

Well it started out as a valiant act of trying to replace some of the funds spent on my daughters wedding and ended up with a new Roscoe on order!

I’m not sure how that happens but I’m sure it falls under the heading of GAS!

It started with isu921 sending a reasonable question to me via a PM and ended with me agreeing to sell my LG3005 to dataBASS5.

The good thing is that I did sell some of my amps and cabinets, actually put the funds in savings and replace them with an inexpensive SWR combo (thanks Youngs!). The bad thing is I sold my most beloved Roscoe, missed the opportunity to purchase a nice used one that I had targeted and then took the funds out of savings to help pay for a new Roscoe that I’m having built!
My wife thinks that I’m doing it to distract me from the fact that I miss my daughter being around the house!

She’s probably right!

At any rate, the spec’s are:

LG3005 w/straight p/u’s
Exhibition burl maple top
Spanish Cedar body (natural)
Exhibition Cocobolo finger board
Bart CB p/u’s
Audere pre
Diamondwood nut
Roscoe hard case

It’s been 2 years since I’ve had a Roscoe built and since I always enjoy seeing one come together, I thought I’d share the experience with you other Roscoeheads.
I haven’t seen many new Threads of TB’ers having Roscoe’s made recently so maybe I can inspire a few of you to upgrade or add to your arsenal of basses.

I’ve got nothing to show for now. I even gave Gard the honor (or chore) of picking the woods. I’ve seen the nice tops and finger boards that he recommends and I can’t think of anyone that I’d trust more to do it!

If I get any pictures to share I’ll certainly do it. If not, I’ll at least show you the completed bass! In the meantime, you guys can console me!

Yeah, you're welcome dataBASS5!!

You know how these things work too Joe. Wells Fargo sent me a refund check last week (from the escrow account on the house I sold) that would have covered it and then some!

Sometimes I'm too responsible!!

Oh, and BTW. It's LSU.. Like the National Champion LSU Tigers.. The ones that host the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend..

Hey Joe,

As nothing can replace your daughter not being in the house and the daily interaction with children, I am in agreement with you.

I want to say congrats on the new Roscoe order!

Database5 is coming by Saturday to pickup a Eden footswitch, so hopefully I will get a chance to play your old bass.

Congrats on the new order, that should be a nice player. I can share your "queue" pain, been waiting for only a month now and it's killer!

LOL!

It is a shame that someone else gets a blessing from your efforts but the principle of "paying it forward" really works. I've got a feeling that there's plenty of nice basses in your future!

....and just for the record, I am a huge Bulldog fan, but an even bigger Tide fan! Born in Tuscaloosa Ala. and raised in Montgomery! ROLL TIDE!!! .....but go you grat big Hairy Dawgs!

Thanks Clint!
That's cool that you'll get to play the bass! I am glad that it stayed in the Roscoe TB family.
The new one should be a slightly tweaked version of it!

Let me know what you think of the bass........

Mmmm. . . possibly. After getting all the angry PM's and reading LSU's response, I'm not too sure I want to step out of the house with this bass.

LSU has got to be hatin' it!!! First I diverted his old SKB to Clint, then I snagged the bass he had been jones'n for. If ever there should be a TB'er upset at me, it is inthepocket4u or LSU.

Still, nobody is grateful that I snagged this bass even though Youngs took one right out my backyard and then pounced on the next 5 for sale?

That's a great spec - it's going to be a sweet bass for sure. I'll look forward to seeing the wood that Gard picks out.

I'm going to have to get something with the CBs at some point. Probably a Century Std though...

Not yet but I'm sure it'll eventually get there. I had a spare so it's no problem!

The amp cleaned up nicely. It really is in mint condition (as advertised). I serviced it (cleaned the pots and input/output jacks) and it's working like new!

Thanks for a great deal!

Hey Jeff! I haven't seen you on the forum lately. I guess school and playing has you fairly busy. I miss your input. How's the Roscoe working out?
As you can see I went back to my first love (Spanish Cedar and LG body). I really think that the Audere/Bart combo will sound very nice with the Spanish Cedar.

I actually had that combo in my SKB3006 for a while. Spalted Maple top and Spanish Cedar body with Audere, but with standard Roscoe/Barts, they didn't have the CBs yet. Wasn't quite as punchy as a Ash body but a nice tone. You could really adjust the mids and dial them in. The classics will really open the bass up, not as clean as the Nords, but a lot less compressed than the Standard Roscoe Barts. The thing I like about the classics, it still sounds like a Roscoe, just a little more open.

I prefer the Demeter, but I did like the low mid on the Audere. In church I would turn the hi-mids off, but in a bar setting I would set the high-mids at 12 o'clock. On the LG that DannyR now has, I had the Audere in it with the Classics until a Demeter came along.

You will be happy with the Audere/Classics combo Joe, you will definitely hit the P and J bass tone and get a warm slap tone as well.
