UPS just pulled out of my driveway and left a smile on my face!
3006 SKB fretted bass with Aggie and Nord p/u's
(aka S/N 5705)
I can't play it very long 'cause I pull out for Alaska tomorrow morning at 4:30 AM.
I will say that it needed a good set-up but it plays like butter now.
I'll post more when I get the opportunity to play it some more next week.
Thanks Tony!
Later guys!

I'd become a bit worried that you'd moved away from Roscoe, but it's good to see you back |

I see that your long awaited dream Roscoe finally arrived! The pic's that I saw of the body and FB sure look good. You need to get a camera and post some finished pic's!
......I'm headed out to the Atl. airport now. When I get back from Alaska I'll have some good one-on-one time with this new 3006 and I'll post my impressions.
I will say though that pictures don't do it justice! Very sweet! |

The tone...
The feel....
The playability....
What it's like having a Roscoe again after DEFECTING the ranks....

Man! "DEFECTING the ranks...." sounds so hard!
Hey but I've got to say that it's great to be back playing a Roscoe! The 6 is so much fun to play and the Roscoe 6 is by far IMO the best out there!
I actually played the 3006 in the main service for the first time this morning and I'm still very surprise at how "not in your face" the tone is! The 3005 myrtle/ash/Nord/Aggie that I had made last year was so very much "in your face" but this 3006 with the same recipe except the wenge/yellow heart/maple wedge neck is very much smoother sounding. I guess that variation makes the difference. I may play around with some different strings before I settle in but I'm I'm definitely back to stay.
It's just plain and simple. Roscoe blood just runs through my viens! |

I have a camera but I'm not very good with it The great news is that after some more thorough playing with that bass I'm sure it is everything I hoped it would be. Quote: |

| I'd say the neck and fingerboard are both playing a role in the difference, and as always there is variation between particular pieces of wood so you've got a different piece of ash, a maple top and a bigger overall neck and body size as compared to that 3005. In any case, I'm glad it's worked out for you!
I'm really enjoying the Nordstrand/Audere combo - I'm now sure that this will be the electronics in every fretted bass I own from this point forward! I'm also sure I'm stuck on spanish cedar for Roscoe body wood, but if you've got an ash bass that's working for you then all the better! I know more are getting built with Gard around to sway the specs, and mostly I think people are happy with this so I won't question it. Certainly if folks like you and Gard think they sound good, they must be alright |

I like Spanish cedar just fine for some things, as a matter of fact, my next bass will indeed have an SC body and maple top....
...but that probably won't see the light of day for at least a year now...

Seriously though.......I played the new 3006 at a gig the other night with a much better mix and I'm starting to get a better sense of the natural tone of this instrument. It's been my experience with the ash Roscoes that they have a much more aggressive upper mid tone but this one just doesn't have those extreme upper mid tones. I guess that I under estimated the difference that the neck & fingerboard woods would make to the overall sound.
The wenge/yellow heart/maple neck really gives the bass a much more polite clear tone. Even with the mid control out & full up the mid emphasis is minimal compared to previous Roscoes. I would say that it reminds me of the Demeter except the Demeter pre mids are more low-mid focused and this bass is more upper-mid focused.
The bass really has a lot of simularities of the tulipwood bodied/maple neck/rosewood FB MTD 635 I owned.
Of course this opinion is even more confusing because the reason XavidmanX sold it is because he prefered the sound of the MTD's.....
Bottom line is that this bass kind of contradicts the opinions of most on this forum (and my only other experience with this combo; i.e. 3005 ash body/Mac ebony FB/Nord/Aggie), that being that the Nord/Aggie OBP-3 sound is very aggressive.
Regardless the sound of this bass is really growing on me. The drummer likes it better than some of my other pervious Roscoes because he says "the notes are more focused and defined but the tone still thumps you hard in the chest" (that's his description not mine! ).
I may yet experiment with other pre's and maybe even Bart p/u's with this bass but for now I'm content with spending more time getting familar with it.......
Gard,
Do you remember enough about the tone of this bass while it was there to comment on the overall tone as compare to other Nord/Aggie equipped Roscoes?
Is what I'm describing a result of the wedge wenge neck?
