Bartolini Preamp question

On my gig last night, I had to change the batteries. I didn't have a table to do this. So i had a friend hold my bass as I changed them. In the process, I pulled both black wires from the connection. I go to solder them today, and both the red and the black wires for one of the batteries comes out of the bass with almost no pulling. The other end of this is soldered together and I can't find what the wires were connected to. Is this a big deal. Do I only need one battery? I plugged my bass in with only the one battery and it sounds fine. Is this ok, or am I in for some problems?

I'm sure Gard and or Joe will reply as soon as they leave Fezziwig's party.

Good luck and it probably is fairly minor, but what do I know - I'm just the bass player.

Part 1: Pete's right. Gard or Joe will give you the right answer. Question is - Will it be a coherent answer after they leave Fezziwig's party?

Part 2: The important distinction - I'm THE bass player.

Here is a PDF of the wiring diagram. You will want to follow the diagram with the two batteries.

Thank you for the diagram.

From the looks of things, My preamp was wired as a 9 volt. But I have 2 batteries in the compartment and one is just wired to short itself out. I think i will wire it up to be 18 volt and reap those benefits.

Yeah those battery connectors can be quiet flimsy. As far as running the pre on just a single 9V battery, that's no problem. I doubt that you'd be able to tell unless you hook it a O-Scope.

And it appears that Clint's already provided the wiring diagram!

You may want to pickup some more durable battery connectors and install them (while you're at it).

Merry Christmas!!!

I replace mine with ones from Radio Shack, they are pretty heavy duty.

Clint & Joe, thanks for stepping in! Myron, sorry to hear you had that problem!

For the record, the connectors in that bass were the ones supplied by Bartolini (not trying to pass the buck!), and what we used for quite a long time, but they are no longer our battery clip, we source a much heavier-duty version now.

Again, Myron, very sorry to hear about your problem.
