Best amp with Roscoe

Ok, now that i finally got a new Roscoe, I am thinking about upgrading my amp/cabinet set-up. I have used my old Eden wt300 with XLT410 since 1998. Any suggestions?

Scroll down in this forum and you'll find this: Which type of amp do you use on your Roscoe?

Lots of good info there

It ain't broke, don't fix it!

(I've got an Eden WT-550, Eden D-210MBX, and Epifani UL310 Series II myself, love it!)

Which do you like better? Eden or Epifani?

The Eden cab is a modified D-210XLT, shaped like a wedge monitor. It's a fantastic cab for WHAT IT IS, but as a stand alone, it leaves a lot to be desired, frankly. I love the Epifani, but I also had a D-410XST for a few years that just CRUSHED everything in sight....what I'd do, if I were really wanting to change something is go somewhere with a really good selection of amps & cabs and try stuff out. Sadly, as you're in Raleigh, that means a drive for you... ...I'd suggest a road trip to either Atlanta (Atlanta Bass Gallery) or Blacksburg, VA (Rocket Music) to check out what they've got...

^ They're two entirely different animals. Aside from the huge difference in cabinet design/porting, the Eden uses ceramic drivers, while that particular Epi cab uses neo(dynium) drivers. That said, for rocking those neo's, the Epi hits HARD.

If your Eden is anything like mine, those drivers are in need of reconing or replacement. If it doesn't seem to hit as hard or as quickly as it used to (with "quick" being relative...those XLT's can be a bit woofy) that's something you may want to consider. At that...if your ears are anything like mine, the cabinet won't sound as good after a swap. I'm not sure what they did differently over the years, but as soon as I replaced my two failed drivers I had the cab up for sale.

Another Eden user here---I use a WT1205 into a D610XST.

I've said it in other threads, and I'll say it again----there's something about Roscoe basses and Eden amps that just plain works (for me, anyway).

I have used Aguilar and Genz Benz with my Roscoes also, but for me, they just don't quite have what the Eden does.......

I hear that. I guess I have felt that way for quite some time but now there is Genz Benz and Epifani and I'm sure other good ones. I'm thinking of starting with my Eden head and trying Epifani cabinet. I line the amp, not sure if it is enough clean power but it matches the tone of the Roscoe nice. Thanks

It depends as they make a lot of different stuff. The thread Jeff referenced is probably a really good place to start. That said, since you asked...

With a few specific exceptions, I'm not a fan....with Roscoe basses or others. I totally dig my Shuttle 9.0 amp, and for rehearsals and small gigs, my Shuttle 6.0-12T combo works fine. Where tone is the prime consideration (which, for my gigs, isn't always...or even often...the case), I look elsewhere.

Ultimately though, it comes down to what works for YOU. Genz Benz might be perfect. If you're really counting on input from others, I'd suggest offering up some more details. What type of gigs do you play? Style(s), venue size, ensemble size, etc... Do you have a benchmark tone in mind (i.e. old SVT, crisp GK, etc.)?

As a general, sort of blanket statement, I will never argue against Eden. Great stuff. You needn't worry about coming across as subtle...everyone will know there's a bass player in the room, yet sonically it's flexible enough to be valid in any number of stylistic settings.

My 2 cents......Mesa M6 Carbine is KILLER with my Roscoe's. Paired with my Mesa Powerhouse 2x12 cab I can dominate any mix or stage if need be.

Roscoe + Mesa = American craftsmanship at it's finest in my opinion.

My favorite amp/cab combination is the Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 with the Uber 4x10 cab. I also have a TC Electronics RH 450 that I pair with Eden XLT cabs. Both set ups sound great with Roscoe basses.

Well I'm sans a Roscoe temporarily but IMHO
Thunderfunk 550, A or B, with or without the switch and a Berg HT112 or HT112ER.

Ok, I'm gonna chime in with even MORE questions. Looking back through the other thread there's lotsa Eden love. Has anyone tried David's new amp (DNA) yet? They just rolled it out at NAMM, so I dunno if it's made it to stores yet? I know Jerry said he's tried their 112 cabs at Gelb so they might get one of the heads in (hint-hint).

I also saw that Epifani has moved production back to the US, so checking out a 50* series may be in order.

God Bless, Ray

Very true. When I had mine, I used a Mesa 400+ thru a sealed Berg NV cab or a GK 700 RBII thru an Aguilar GS212. Both were wonderful!

Mine are all awesome through an EA iAmp 800 and 3 Aguilar GS112s. Sometimes 1, sometimes 2, sometimes (not often 4), but 3 is where I find "tonal Nirvana" (not Nirvana's tone....)

Before I owned Roscoes, I had an Ashdown ABM900, and I'm betting that would drive 3 or 4 GS112s rather nicely, too.

See my sig... I'm still using my WT550 as well. Great articulation. My Roscoe punches through any mix with no problems. I like the sound better with a 210XST than a 210 XLT, which has more mids than required. It also sounds great with the Aggie amps.

I like my Streamliner with my Century Standard J a lot, it's fine with the others, but not magic like the CS-J, particularly chunky sounding amp with particularly chunky basses, what Jerry'd call too much of a good thing.
