Better sustain and low b growl.

Which wood combo in a LG is going to have a better sustain and deep growl, ash or Spanish ceder? Fretboard make much difference? Thanks

It'll all be good with a Roscoe but IMO nothing growls like Mahogany on a Roscoe. Especially with some wenge in the neck.
Of the two that you specify though I prefer the sound of Spanish cedar. It's more acoustic sounding (smooth) and not as aggressive as ash.

But it's all subjective ....

^ I agree with this. Specifically, you mentioned *deep* growl, and nothing's going to get you deep like mahogany.

Ash will have more bark and bite to it, but not really the deep growl that you mentioned. A good friend of mine has a mahogany/koa SKB 3006, and that one really gets the type of sound you are talking about. One of THE best fingerstyle growls I have ever heard in a bass.

So Spansih cedar would be deeper and a bit more growly than ash. I know it's not mahogany but is it closer? thanks
