Body laminates..

I watched the videos of the bodies being glued.. What's in the middle of the top and back? The thin sheets, not the glue..

They look like thin laminates of various hard woods. Probably to obtain the look that we've been seeing along the perimeter of the bodies where it's radiused (on some of the new Roscoe's).

I know I asked several years ago if the pin stripe between the top and the body wood was accomplished via a thin wood laminate and Keith stated that most of the time they just taped off a section of the body wood to get that look.

It does seem like I remember some one mentioning some type of composite material that they did sometimes use between the top and body wood though.

I don't think that they install the thin laminates on every Roscoe body. Then again, things are always evolving at Roscoe.....

Maybe Gard will chime in..............

The definitely are using wood laminates for sure on most of the basses I've come across recently. It's a way nicer touch, IMO.

The pinlines can be either laminates (usually maple, cherry, or walnut, depends on what we can find locally), or it can be a "pinstripe" created by Keith taping off the body a certain way while he's finishing it.

So the answer is: "both".

You can usually tell pretty quickly by looking - the wider stripes that you can see definite grain in are taped off, the thinner ones are usually veneers. We don't use any composites (phenolic sheets) on the bodies, but that is what the black line you can see on the headstock between the neck wood and the matching overlay is.
