Christmas is for Children Radiothon--Slate's Story

I hope it's ok to post this here Gard. A few of you guys helped encourage me more than you know as we were going through some difficult times the past 18 months.

Previous Post – 103.7 Lite FM - Dallas, TX

Scroll down and click play on 'Slate's Story'

Children's Hospital contacted my wife, Courtney, this summer to ask us to come in and share Slate's story for the annual radiothon fundraiser. This is the result.

There are also a few still images here, excuse my wrinkled face:

Slate’s Story – Christmas Is For Children Radiothon

TL/DR:

Greg and Gard helped me find a new Roscoe to replace the LG3006 I sold last year to help pay medical bills. The new instrument is SLATEbass.

Back Story:

I present to the forum, SLATEbass (NBD)

Greg, Gard, Ray, everyone--thank you

Heath, Now THIS is inspiring. You and Courtney have courage few ever attain. Slate WILL benefit greatly from that alone.

We as human beings get so wrapped up in survival and transversing the "Rat Race" we often overlook what's REALLY important.

All we come into the world with, and all anyone will ever have the moment they draw their last breath is the ability to love. Never will you find a person looking for money or possesions as their time draws to a close, but rather people which they love.

As tough as it is for you and Courtney personally, I believe Slate going through what he has is a wake up for us that are on the "outside" to pay attention to the reality of life.

I thank you and Courtney, I commend you both and I pray for all of you.

If you need a friend, I'm here. Next time I'm in Dallas, we'll get together and have a ball.

God Bless, Ray

Man! Very touching and inspiring audio!
As a father and grandfather my heart really hurts for you. I can only imagine the range of emotions that you and your wife have experienced over the last 18 mos. I'm definitely inspired by you, your wife and Slates courage through all that's gone down.
God's word states that He'll never put more on us than we are able to handle. With that I'm CONFIDENT that you can both endure it and ultimately be victorious through it all. You've certainly got my thoughts & prayers.

Man, that's powerful stuff, Heath. I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas together, and I pray that Slate continues to make a full recovery. That is one tough kid you've got there!

I couldn't say it any better. All the best to you and your family.

Man, as a father of two girls, I can feel for you. Sadly, my daughter, Emma, has a serious condition with scoliosis and we have to visit Children's Hospital in Boston frequently (she wears a corrective brace), but we are lucky. The other children in that hospital have it much worse than my daughter (cancer, birth defects, and so on) and we know this is temporary, yet we still are humbled each and every time we venture inside. Sadly, it sometimes takes these experiences to make us realize how fortunate we really are in this life.

I believe music is a huge way to help me deal and compartmentalize these feelings and uncertainties - music doesn't judge or care. I presume you feel the same. I play music as a catharsis, and know most TB'ers do the same- it is our common bond. We need to keep it up.

Thinking of you and your family, Heath.

Totally agree brother Pete. Music is very cathartic for me, be it playing or listening. It has also been the one constant I've enjoyed and been half decent at.

I spent most of my hospital time at Texas Scottish Rite, and the hardest visit I have experienced was my last at age 18 ( effectively my release as they are a children only hospital as well ). I went through oddly enough "Blue Ortho" ( my hood for my stay). I saw all the little ones as going through their ordeals and at that point it was heart breaking. Sometimes kids were even dropped off for months at a time with no family support. The only adults some of them saw were nurses and other kids parents.

I thank all of you for not being THOSE parents. It would have been hell without mine.

God Bless, Ray

Indeed there are many fine, caring Roscoe heads here. Ray's sentiments speak for me as well.
