Coil Splitter for Nordys DCs w/Audere pre

Hey Fellas,

I've had some time (but honestly will need a little more) to experiment on the split coil tones now available on my bass thanks to Funky Ger and a $10.00 push/pull pot from Best Bass Gear.

I publicly tried the split coil position last Sunday morning with both mids 1/4 boosted, bass 1/3 boosted, treble 1/4 cut and blend 1/4 rolled to the bridge with the the switch in the "High Z" position. The sound man said the tone sounded nice and warm as did the music director that sat in the congregation that morning so both were able to hear what was really going on.

You know, I can use different adjectives and what all to describe different tones I hear at different settings but in all reality, it's just one guys' opinion and isn't very applicable to another's taste.

Another nice thing about this option:

If you're not crazy about it, you simply leave the pot knob pushed in. There is no trip back to drawing board and piggy bank to buy more pickups or preamps because of dissatisfaction.

What I can verify for those of you searching for different tonal options, is that I'm pretty confident you wont find anything to give you more variety at less of an expense to your wallet. Keep in mind I'm using an Audere 4-way pre that seems like a perfect match for my bass (#5850) and Nordstrand pickups whether in DC or SC mode.

Lord bless you and have a great day,

Doug

Hey CD,

You need to draw out the circuit and list the part number of the Pot so other Roscoeheads can do the same.

Hey Clint,

You're right!!

The wiring is different for the stock Audere pre and the Roscoe/Audere. Funky Ger has a diagram for the stock unit and I have it somewhere but need to leave the office now. I'll update this evening.

The pot value is 250k.

All the best,

Doug

Hey Doug!
I couldn't help but think of you the other night when American Idol held the auditions in Phoenix! I thought that I caught a glimps of a guy playing a Roscoe in the crowd .......

Was the cactus man a relative of yours?

By the way, cool tip on the coil split switch!

A local guy here has his Bart/Bart setup coil tapped on his Century Sig V and it sounds pretty good.

This is a very cool modification...it's too affordable not to give it a whirl.

It gives you more tonal options.

This diagram is for non Roscoe Audere preamp....just the standard Audere pre. If you need larger pic of this diagram, PM me with your email address.

Tapping the coils will allow you to switch between Double Coil and Single Coil. It kinda of gives you both the sound of a "P" bass and a Jazz bass when you tap the coil. It really gives you more tones on your bass.

Non-tapped = Double Coil P bass
Tapped = Single Coil and more like a Jazz bass.

Just as Crash said.....or in otherwords, it's like having a bi-polar girlfriend.
