Hey Fellas,
I've had some time (but honestly will need a little more) to experiment on the split coil tones now available on my bass thanks to Funky Ger and a $10.00 push/pull pot from Best Bass Gear.
I publicly tried the split coil position last Sunday morning with both mids 1/4 boosted, bass 1/3 boosted, treble 1/4 cut and blend 1/4 rolled to the bridge with the the switch in the "High Z" position. The sound man said the tone sounded nice and warm as did the music director that sat in the congregation that morning so both were able to hear what was really going on.
You know, I can use different adjectives and what all to describe different tones I hear at different settings but in all reality, it's just one guys' opinion and isn't very applicable to another's taste.
Another nice thing about this option:
If you're not crazy about it, you simply leave the pot knob pushed in. There is no trip back to drawing board and piggy bank to buy more pickups or preamps because of dissatisfaction.
What I can verify for those of you searching for different tonal options, is that I'm pretty confident you wont find anything to give you more variety at less of an expense to your wallet. Keep in mind I'm using an Audere 4-way pre that seems like a perfect match for my bass (#5850) and Nordstrand pickups whether in DC or SC mode.
Lord bless you and have a great day,
Doug
