My rig consists of my Roscoe, an XDS-Plus wireless, and an Aguilar DB750/GS410. I use the DI on the Aguilar to go direct to the board. We have our own PA system with this band, that consists of JBL dual 18 bottoms and dual 15+horn tops, an Allen & Heath MixWizard 3, Crown power amps, etc, etc. Not top of the line, but it's a pretty decent PA for what this band does (although nothing like what's being put together for my new band ).
We play a little bit of everything in the band, from blues to classic rock to a little country, to some fairly modern rock. So, I need to cover a wide variety of sounds/genres. I always set my amp pretty much flat, and use the low boost and high boost switches on it (sounds killer that way, to me). I had to do VERY little with the EQ on the Roscoe to change my tone---I found it to be extremely responsive to my right hand attack and positioning, moreso than a lot of other basses I've owned. It could sound as mellow as I needed it to (while still having just enough bite), but it really barks when I dig in. And the slap tone is just out of this world. The Bart CB's/Aggie OBP-3 seem to be the PERFECT ticket to make a Roscoe get a killer slap tone (to my ears, anyway).
Through the PA, in the mix (and the EQ on the board was totally flat for the bass), was where it really seemed to shine through though. Both myself and one of the guitar players go wireless, as we run sound from the stage, and take turns going out front once in awhile to check things out. It sat in the mix just beautifully, but every single note I played came through clear as a bell. And I got compliments from both guitar players on how great they thought it sounded.
So, all in all, I'm a VERY happy camper with this bass. I honestly couldn't have asked for it to turn out any more perfect, for me, than what it did. I'm sure it wouldn't be for everyone, as it's inherent tone is a little bit edgy/aggressive, but with a simple change in attack and/or positioning, it will really mellow itself out. |

Although my wife still doesn't like it that well. She likes the "crazy" figured tops, and says that this one is just kinda "blah" compared to some of the others that she's seen or that I've owned (like The Brain).
So, I told her that WHEN I order my fretless Roscoe, SHE can work with Greg and Gard and pick out the top. She kinda liked that idea...............I have a strong feeling that it'll end up being buckeye burl or something along those lines. But hey, if it gets me another bass sooner, I'll take whatever they come up with (of course, I'll spec out the more important bits). |

...glad the bass is doing what you wanted man, I really dug the tone and playability of it, and thought that while it wasn't "over the top" like some of the others, it's really got a classy beauty to it. I REALLY like the fingerboard.

I want to come hear your band and this bass.

And to be honest, she hasn't been crazy about any of the basses I've owned since The Brain........(yes, I get crap from her, too, for selling that bass). Quote:

The new band I'm in has a bunch of connections down in that area, so I'm guessing I'll be playing down in the area again in the not-too-distant future. The band I'm gigging in now sticks pretty close to Fargo. Quote:

Everything about it states class!
Glad to hear that it plays and sounds as nice as it looks. If it's anything like my current Roscoe, you should clutch it with a death grip and never let go.
As Gard say's "they'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands" or something like that! |

Yep, it's the perfect combination for what I was looking/hoping for with this bass. If I were to do it all over again, there's no doubt in my mind I'd order the exact same electronics again. |
