However, the back was a bit "wobbly" on it's own, so we needed to get it glued up right away, so we laminated it up to a really nice piece of Spanish cedar, and cut it to be a Century (or potentially Century Signature) V. Here's the front and back of it:

However, the thing with sapwood is it's near the exterior of the tree, close to the bark. This piece was REALLY close to the bark....
...heck, it has a whole bunch of bark in it!
Anyhow, the quilt is just too good to not try and build something with it, so...we glued it to a piece of ash and cut a Century (or Century Signature) V (notice a trend?  ).
Here is a photo of the raw wood and the bass just after it was rough carved. Note: we are leaving some of the bark in to make the top fill in - we think it looks great, but we also realize some folks might just not "get it", and we won't be offended if you don't.
Personally, I dig the heck out of this!
