I think most, if not all Roscoe's are shipped with these, but you can always all the shop and ask Gard, or wait for Joe to chime in |

During a recent phone conversation, Gard suggested that I avoid tapered string sets as the Bart's strong magnetic field may have a detrimental effect on string performance and may actually propel the user into a hostile parallel universe...I hate it when that happens! As luck would have it, both my Century's are due for a string change, eveything I have on hand is tapered, and I'm not necessarily a big fan of DA's. To further complicate issues, my newer Century 5 Plus has the shorter string posts which allow for only 2-3 wraps. I'm looking for a similar nickel string with a thin tuner-end taper wrap which won't "crowd" the post. I can continue to use the DA's if necessary but I'm sure there must be a handful of suitable alternatives.

.032 .045 .065 .085 .100 .125
(just eliminate the .032 and .125 as necessary to accommodate your set)
I use DR strings (Black Beauties to be specific) and they work perfectly as well.

.030 .045 .065. 085 .105 .130
Little heavier on the E & B string than our regular sets, but still nickel.

I changed the strings as they were so dead they were losing tune.
I threw on a set i was given to try out and it had a tapered B. This and the rest of the strings upset the setup no end. Obviously i had to raise the saddle on the B but now i have no neck relief. I gave the truss a couple of 1/4 turns over a few hours and a saddle raise here and there. It's come out "alright" but it was much nicer action and zero buzz with the original strings. I do realise that there will be tension differences anyway between such old strings and a brand new set that may require a small tweak but man, that was the most tweaking i have ever had to give a bass after changing strings/brands. I will certainly chase some DAs when i can!
Cheers,
Mark.

Mark. | Mark, FYI, we find that the taper strings are problematic. They have a tendency to be difficult/impossible to get intonated correctly, they rattle a bit more even with a correct setup, and can cause some serious "double beating" (makes the notes sound like they have an over the top chorus on them) on the lower strings in higher positions.
However, if you're getting a good setup and sound, then well...if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
