OK, here's a unique situation:

Our South American dealer/distributor has ordered a very special, Limited Edition Standard Plus model. Over the coming months/years, he will be getting these in all three body styles, with all the string combinations. That's why you're about to see something that is a "no-go" on almost any other Standard Plus model (other dealers, you're welcome to discuss similar arrangements! - sorry, no "one-off" orders with all of these options are available).

SKB Standard 5J Plus
Holly top
Mahogany body
Natural Oil finish
Bartolini JJ pickups
Bartolini 3-band preamp
3-piece Maple neck
Wenge fingerboard
Matching Headstock (ONLY available on LE models!)
Graphite nut
Black hardware

Here's the finished pics:

WOW

That is one heck of a combination. Super well thought out and classy as heck.

Limited editions aside, is are holly tops available on other Century Standards? How about custom models (not sure if it's a suitable wood for a thicker top, please fill me in)? If so is it a significant upcharge (like an exhibition grade top)? Thanks in advance for the info

Jeff, absolutely! I'm not sure it would translate as well to a Custom/Signature, part of what makes that just "work" is the contrast between the darker mahogany back and the very light holly on top.

The stuff isn't free, but not particularly expensive either - probably looking at a $400 retail on a thick top for it.

Could look great on a Custom/Signature with a thick wenge shim, to match the fretboard.

Darkstrike read my mind. Alder back, wenge shim, holly top! I definitely agree that pairing it with a darker back like mahogany works super well though.

Gard, if you need American Holly i'm your man; we have beaux coup American Holly (Ilex opaca) here in New England. I'd be happy to get ya some, of course I would need a 5-string compensation package....

Im told American Holly can be a solid tonewood as well... How bout some Holly bodies?

I actually got to see these in person a few weeks back. Keith was pretty excited and impressed with the Holly. In his words .."thats some of the straightest stuff ive ever worked with". He did mention that it doesnt have a ton of visual character but after seeing this bass..im impressed! Well Done
