Yeah, according to Jerry the Demeter really really worked well with that ash bass. You scored a nice Roscoe on that deal. I really love the grain on the solid ash body.
I guess that it had a been a couple of years since I heard a Roscoe with the Demeter pre and it was just re-validated in my mind as to just how good the Demeter sounds in a Roscoe.
I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of mid and bass control the Demeter has. I didn't remember it having that much boost and cut in those area's.
Over time I almost bought into the notion that the Audere was similar sounding to the Demeter but after an A/B comparison of the Roscoe w/Audere & the Roscoe w/Demeter, they aren't even close in sound.
I'm GAS'ing to see how the Tyler Demeter (that's what I ordered but it has Roscoe written on the back of the PCB) sounds with the Bart CB p/u's. I think I'm going to put it in tonight and give it a demo tomorrow morning at church. |

I prefer this in both of my Roscoes (SKB 5 and 6) over anything from Nordstrand, Audere, etc.
I wouldn't switch out the Demeter pres for anything.
Am I the only one that thinks this?

You're right, the grain on it is one-of-a-kind. Being solid ash, it seems a little blue collar compared to a lot of snappy Roscoes but I really dig that about it. Plus the sound is all I could want!
It has the original Roscoe/Bart p/u's so I don't really know what a difference the CBs could bring to it but I am curious. I don't really have a lot of experience with the Audere (just a few test drives at the bass shop) but I'm really happy with what I have in a preamp. (If it ain't broke..., right?) I will have to say, I really like the Bart/Bart combination in my fretless. I know others, like Jerry, have voiced a similar opinion.
Let us know what you think of the new preamp!

Bruce | Bruce,
The Bart CB's have a more open sounding tone. If you feel that the bass sounds nice and smooth with the Roscoe Barts, I'd stay with them. Most feel that the Roscoe Barts are more compressed sounding (and sometimes a bit more nasual sounding).
I installed the new Demeter in my Roscoe. Check out my comments in this thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showth...=1#post7315221 Quote: |

Of course I guess that we might both be nuts! |

| | Providing the Lowend for the High One | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Georgia | | I installed another new Roscoe/Demeter in a local guys Roscoe. That's the 3rd in 2 months.
This Roscoe had the Aggie/Roscoe Bart combo w/maple fb, maple top & Spanish cedar body.
The guy called me 2 times last night and 2 times today just raving about the slap tone and just the overall sweetness of the pre amp.
You guys that aren't totally content with the slap tone or the somewhat compressed sound of your Roscoe's, the Demeter is the ticket! |

Lotsa wires.
Thanks!

Thanks! | You'll probably have to get that info from James Demeter. Since it comes prewired they don't provide much documention with the preamp. |

As soon as I plugged it up I was reminded of why so many Roscoe owners with Roscoe's with ash bodies loved the Demeter preamp option!
The Demeter just totally smooths out the aggressive tone of ash. It retains the positive sound characteristics of ash but smooths out the somewhat harsh upper mid's. It also really opens up the tone of the Roscoe Bart's.
To my ears, a really huge improvement from the Aggie OBP-3 that was factory installed in the bass.
I'll post some sound clips of the bass soon on the Roscoe sound clip thread. |

As much as I love the sound of that bass I'm thinking that the Demeter would open up the tone a bit and smooth out the overall tone.
Worse case, if I'm wrong I can just put the Bart 3-band back in. |
