the downside to multiple basses

Gig in a few hours, some new tunes in the mix including:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZfT2T1wRzo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBCteWVR6kw

The question is does the fretted or the fretless Roscoe go along with the RA. I don't know how you guys with even more basses get out the door.

And no, I'm not going to take 3 basses to the gig. I've done that before, it's just too much to keep track of, and then I get paralysis of analysis in-between songs instead of just getting out the door

Fretted. The fretless goes on the date when the RA stays home on the couch, eating bon-bons.

Not that I have an opinion or anything.

Yeah, that's been my MO and was the plan for tonight. Last rehearsal though I just took the Roscoe fretless. Pretty good chameleon - even for playing Chameleon.

There's your other option, right? Leave the fretted Roscoe and the RA on the couch...with enough bon bons for both of 'em, and offer up enough vibrato on Mr. Magic to make Grover smile from up high.

Well, gotta take the RA. Working with 3 different vocalists, a fair number of ballads, and the Deep 5 just kills those tunes. As in Raid kills 'em dead. For a Steely Jam I'd never have the balls to just take a fretless - too many high pressure reading tunes where I need the security blanket of frets. But tonight? Just jammed both basses along with Put it where you want it and Mr. Magic. Fretted was the cleaner solution and definitely safer.

I'm taking the RA and the fretless

My choices are a lot easier now.

Fretted 5 or 6 (lately always fretted 6) and fretless 5.

FWIW....I'm taking three basses to tomorrow's hit. Nothing else, though...well, at least nothing that won't fit in the front pockets of both Mono bags. Two of the three are a Roscoe and a Rob Allen....yaba daba doo.

I feel your pain, with 3 Roscoe's (see below), I usually bring the Century fretless and either the Cent fretted or (can I say this in this thread ?-) my beloved Modulus Q5, which always sounds kickass. Or the SKB 6er and the Century Standard 5.

New "audition" tomorrow afternoon for jazz trio and I think I will just bring the SKB 3006 & my combo amp. If things go well and my sight reading chops improve then I will also bring the Roscoe fretless.

FWIW- I never bring our use my 4 string Musicman.

It is tough owning more than 2 basses.....

You know, there are bad problems to have, and good problems to have.
You, and Jerry, and me, and the problem of "which incredible bass do I bring to the gig tonight" - that's a good problem to have.

Yeah, I'm spoiled. I ended up taking all 3 at the g/f's insistence.

Speaking of her, we walked NAMM yesterday and of course saw the best of the best. Since she's an artist (sculpture), she's pretty keen on design and aesthetic. When we walked back in the door at home, she looked at the wall and said, "you apparently have three of the nicest basses in the world."
