The Dread Pirate Roscoe

Party on, DARTH. (Cross post for the Roscoehead crowd)

Roscoe SKB3006. Mahogany body, quilt maple top (there's a story there), Bart pups and 3 band preamp, ebony fretboard. 34" scale.

Ordered Darth back in April, and just got it today. When I originally ordered, I asked for a mahogany body. A while later, when calling to pester them about a change in the specs, Gard asked "And you wanted a mahogany body, not anything else?" Being the cunning linguist that I am, I spotted his ruse, and I asked "Er, yeah, why?"

Turns out there was a mahogany/maple body without a home, and if I went thattaway, it'd actually save some time. So, my bass has a quilt maple top. I'm kinda curious just how quilted, beings that Keith doesn't put meh tops on basses; but they were willing to cover it up. Moot point now.

This is the first black bass Keith's done in a long time. Matter o' fact, I had to hassle Gard for quite a long time (often in person) before they caved. It went by the name "the Spinal Tap bass" (none more black) before it became Darth Roscoe at some point.

Sorry my pics suck; it's a crap camera I borrowed from my bro, and I have neither the time nor the patience to learn how to use it properly (I hate many buttons that are not MY many buttons).

Thumbs up

Congratulations!

All it needs now is a set of DR Black Beauties!

I can't say I really appreciate the finish (even trans black would be more appropriate to me) but it will sound killer for sure with the mahogany body and ebony board. Enjoy!

You have learned well, young padwan.

....quilt, not so much, which is why it was an "orphan". It looks better black, frankly.

(Nice Princess Bride reference, by the way. )

No, it's not quite Darth (as in my "Vader" dream Roscoe):

The neck back would need to be finished black, it would be fretless ebony, strung with DR Black Beauties, and have Nordstrand pickups (or other variety) that have the metal poles exposed.

Yes, we can, but there is an additional charge for it ($250 retail). We've even done it where Keith tapes off the purpleheart center and leaves it natural...that looked kinda neat.

(And I knew Z would be in here soon.... )

Pretty black bass.

Is'nt that mahogany body going to make it sound a little dark?

I would also wait to change the strings to black beauties untill the strings are more dead.

Not completly dead, just mostly dead.

That's how I roll. If it gives you any indication as to how I, in fact, do roll: I have a mahogany body, mahogany necked short scale bass with a mudbucker, and I don't consider it too dark nor too muddy.

"Stop saying that!!"

For you positive thinkers out there...let's use The Force!! My daughter's high school band raffle ticket goes off tonight at 7 PM. I've got a 250 to one chance of winning $3000...if I do (insert asthmatic breathing soundtrack here....).

Easily one of my top 10 movies, amazingly brilliant, lots of little "adult humor" (without going "blue") in a supposedly "kid" movie. We own it.

No need to stop...

Z, got my fingers crossed.

Hmm, I feel a strange disturbance in The Force. A presence I've not felt since ......

.... since I last played this, actually

Sorry for the thread hijack , but I received an anonymous tip-off about another "Vader Bass" and had to come and have a look.

DR Black Beauties on your Roscoe would indeed be, the icing on the cake, IMHO .

But beware young Brendan !

Dangerous that bass is, yes . Will lead you down the path to Dark Side, it will, mmmm .
