Talking THE DREAM ROSCOE PROJECT (PLAY ALONG)

Hey guys,

I'll never afford a Roscoe. But Just for kicks and maybe info for real Roscoeheads, I'd like for you guys to Design a Roscoe based on the following info and my being a prospective Roscohead.

Background; I've been a passive 4 string Fender guy from day one, so diverging into a bass as versatile as a Roscoe will be taxing.
I'd like a 5 or 6 string instrument (another first) that is fairly light (sub 10 lbs).

Tone goals; Very warm but articulate. I play fingerstyle only (no slap, can't do it yet) Open with a rounded spectrum, not overly bright or muddy. Defined enough to sit in a mix and be clear but not harsh or overdriven and sticking out.

1. Body Style, I'm clueless. Must sit well on a strap. I play sitting down and I essentially have no lap. What's most comfortable?

2 Body Wood? Excluding top That'd be MINE!.

3 Neck/Fingerboard ?
What is a wedge neck and its purpose?

4. Pickups/Pre?
Pickups must be straight, not a fan of the angled look aesthetically (I don't know if that makes any difference tonally).

What other options am I missing? Let me know.

Lets get ready to RUUMMBBBLLE (With a Roscoe)

God Bless, Ray

Century body (which is available in three different models now - Century Standard, Century Signature and [unofficially] Century 300x, like an LG 3005)

2 Body Wood? Excluding top That'd be MINE!.
Weight? Swamp ash, tell the dealer you want to keep the weight down, we will select the back to be as light as possible (avoid certain tops like bubinga or ziracote if you're weight-conscious)

Purpose of the wedge neck? Pretty! Fingerboard, tough call, for an "all around" good choice, Pau Ferro.

The Bart/Bart setup is about 80%+ of everything we do, there must be a reason. As for the pickups, even if you choose the LG, we can do them straight instead of angled, just make sure the dealer knows to include it on the orderform.

Fun game! You should go up to the Rocket Music forum, Greg has a thread there where he's getting guys to line up and spec out basses for his shop....

What is this Century 300X you speak of?

I'm weight conscious, I'm hoping you guys pick out a very lightweight piece of Cedar for mine. Is there such a thing as lightweight cedar?

Am I the only bassist who wants his bass the heaviest it can be?

1. In case you haven't noticed Gard has "let the cat out of the bag" (probably to make sushi)

2. Yes you are! I don't want to play a bowling ball with strings for hours a day.

Yeah, LilRay, we can make the bass a reality even if you don't end up buying it. We'll make sound clips from the eventual owner a prerequisite to the purchase

OK. I'll play!!!

LG3005 w/straight p/u’s
YOUR TOP
Spanish Cedar body (natural)
Exhibition Cocobolo finger board
Bart CB p/u’s
Audere pre (after delivery sell and replace with the Demeter! )
Diamondwood nut
Roscoe hard case

Of course those spec's sound strangely similar to my current Roscoe but then again, if I didn't love it, I'd have another in the queue!

I'm not sure what the magic is but all 3 Roscoe's that I've owned with the Cocobolo finger board had the most stable necks of all.

LilRay............Make your dream a reality, place an order!!!

Here's my take...

SKB 3005 w/ swamp ash body.

Bada boom. Pick your top, keep everything else 'stock', and you'll have....a Roscoe!

I don't know what Raod Rash is, Sounds like something I'll need to visit a doctor if I get it

Why the 5 piece? Aesthetics or tone?

Jerry, That's what's so intriguing about the Century Standard. I don't even know if I'd need a top.

I've always been an under the hood guy. If my machine can leave yours in its wake, I don't care if I'm sporting primer, and you've got 20 coats of hand rubbed lacquer.

My train of thought Is Yours might blind me from the shine, and yours might attract others, but mine gets the job done.

#1 is the Guts, then asthetics.

If I'm able to I like to stick out like a lime green pimp suit. Gives the folks a reason for staring

Thanks for playing along Jerry.

God Bless, Ray

So, does the Century 300x replace the LG or does it have slanted pickups or is it the LG with a longer upper horn?

Spill the beans!!!!

Look on Greg's website, under "Upcoming Roscoe Basses".

Kinda hard to take pics of what hasn't been built yet.

Century body, carved, maple/purpleheart/maple neck.

...sigh, OK, bean spillage (this is NOT OFFICIAL yet):

There will soon be three "levels" of models -

Century Standard (no others planned)

LG, SKB, Century 300x

LG, SKB, Century Signature

The option for the wedge neck will be "rolled into" the Signature model, and you will be able to get a Century bodied bass with an exotic top for essentially the same price as an LG or SKB.

I feel ya! I can't wait to see it.
I can't find "Upcoming Roscoe Basses". I find on order, but not upcoming? Is this where your top is?
