But, here is what I have discovered so far. I am completely nixing the idea of turning this one into a tenor or piccolo bass. It just sounds too awesome the way it is. Roscoe B strings are a thing of wonder and this one beats my SKB.
The JM pickups are bad freakin ass. With the switch up the MM pup is in series mode. It is fat but still very open and airy. Roll in some J pup and it fills in the blanks. Not too much or the whole thing turns to mud.
The switch in the middle is single coil mode. It sounds thinner but, mix the neck pup a lot more and it becomes classic J. Actually, that's not quite right. It's something different from a J. It's definitely a J bass sound but something is different.
Flip the switch down and he MM is in parallel mode. I haven't played with it much but, it is even thinner than single coil mode. It almost sounds like the Nord dual coils in my SKB.
So far I couldn't be happier. My first live gig with it won't be until December 13th when I play a CD release party for a new country artist. Maybe I can funk it up a bit. |

So, I've restrung my SKB as a tenor E-C. I really dig it. However, I could easily see myself trading it for a sixer. I'm going to have put some serious thought on this.
(Gard, Jim said he ordered two basses to be built chef's choice. Do you think one of those will be an SKB 3006? If so, I like mahogany, walnut, quilt maple, cocobollo and wenge.) |

So, what does it take to get an endorsement deal? Do you accept bits of string? |

Before I left and had only played my bass for like an hour I was picking out a potential new top. There are lots of really nice basses out there from all kinds of really nice people, but there is something special about Roscoe. Maybe it's because I spent a few days with the people involved, but they really know there stuff, they care about you and your bass, and they will try almost anything. It's very easy to get addicted..

He's a pilot for one of the "major" airlines, and has layovers in Greensboro sometimes - the layover hotel is visible from the front door of the shop.
...he will be BASSIMILATED! |

I went to a store today and played some of the usual run of the mill - and nice enough - basses only to reinforce that there are two necks that I enjoy. One is my trusty old Geddy Lee jazz. Not sure what it is, but that neck just speaks to me. The other is a 5 string Roscoe neck. While all I really seem to need these days is my Geddy, I still long for a Roscoe. Since my 4 string needs are covered, it seems logical to get a 5, you know, just in case...and to give me a different tone option.
Once you play one its pretty much over. Resistance is futile.
