Chrome works - if everything is chrome...or if the bass is all black. Gold just goes really nicely with wood tones.

If the pickups are black, then black hardware finishes the style cues. If the pickups have chrome poles, then chrome hardware will pickup the pickups, so to speak, and the woods almost fade into the background.

If you've got a awesome wood top, a significantly contrasting back wood that peeks over the front, and black pickups (maybe even a darkwood tone plate), then a chrome bridge looks like an afterthought.

But that's just me...

Z

By the way, fret dots on the side of the board on a fretless are the way to go!! Then you don't have to look for the lines on the board. Put your fingers "on the dot," any you're playing fretless - and will amaze your friends!

Switching to a standard model means no black hardware of course, but that too can be dealt with!

Really this is all just a plan so the folks at Roscoe don't have to feel bad about the delivery time on this one. Now it's all my fault
Well I guess that the wait might result in a good thing then.
So am I hearing you right Jeff, now you have 2 Roscoe 's in the queue?

Yeah, dots on the side are a minimum for me, with the face dots being an added reference. I've tried lined and actually find it a lot harder to play... could just be that I've played unlined fretless and DB a lot more than lined, so it's what I am comfortable with.

That's correct. I had an idea I've been kicking around in my head to order "next" at some point after the fretless was done, but ultimately decided it would work even better with this body/top as the basis and doing the tobacco burst finish on the fretless. Both are going to be killer, even if 4 string Roscoes are a bit uncommon/less popular

They may be less common but no less cool or awesome. As I debate what my fretless will be, I often think all I need is a 4 as I would use it mostly for "jazz" gigs which, ideally, would be an upright so 4 is plenty. On the other hand, I use a 5 at church and lots of people say fretless us great for CCM so maybe I should just go 5.

Anyway, I've seen some pretty nice 4's and I'm sure yours will be another. They are really making some nice stuff right now.

I think it's about time I check in with Gard on where this one is at

I'm actually not sure which is further along, this or the fretted since at the time I made the change the body that now belongs to the latter was about to be glued up, but the neck for the fretless was in the works.

The body is ready for the final coat of clear, the neck is about ready to have the position markers installed.

Should ship next week.

Just pitchin' in...

...a bit later than I'd hoped, but done and gone yesterday!

Here 'tis:

...gettin' a bit "arty" with some photo stuff, a shot of the custom position markers being installed in the fingerboard:

And Keith muggin' for the camera a bit after he's finished with it:

Definitely both classic and classy. Though I know a person or two who would say it needs black hardware

That can certainly be made to happen later but I am going to see how the chrome grows on me

There are times when chrome is the right thing.

THIS would be one of those times. DON'T change it, it will lose the vibe, IMO.

Awesome Jeff! The side finger board markers look very classy. great idea.

That's a very traditional looking Roscoe. Old school class!
