Well, no sense for me to buy the SKB now, since I can get this one in a couple weeks.

Seriously, though, congrats! I definitely wanna try to get together to check this one out at some point!

Good! Now it's not taunting me on my way to work every day. Glad I got to play it while it was here.

Seriously, congrats. You got yourself a hell of a bass.

I think so, too. It'll be a nice post-Christmas present. We don't do much for ourselves - kids get most of the fun - so this will be sweet.

My wife just received her "mother's ring" last week. A very nice custom designed diamond and ruby thing set in white gold. Not quite as much as a Roscoe - but darn close.

Unfortunately, we both have good - and expensive - taste.

Thanks. Yeah, go big or go home, right? I have often said if I had a good fretted 5 and fretless 5 string I would be able to cover just about any gig out there...and noodle around at home.

I've been inspired by a friend/fellow player (monster player actually) who has a couple of basses that he hung onto for *years* while figuring them out and how they fit into what he wanted to do. With one of them, he said around year 5 it finally clicked and he loves the instrument. Not sure I have the patience, but I'm now sticking with the instruments I have as they all scratch different itches, and have two on order that will replace one I have. When those two show up I know I'll have doubts, regrets, and frustration after the honeymoon. But I know they will be great basses, and I'm going to take time and figure them out. Sometimes an instrument fits right out of the gate. Other times the instrument wants to lead you down some different paths, and either you're not ready or not willing to follow so you flip it (guilty). I'm pretty much up for any path that allows me to bring out some interesting music and I'll let the tools help guide me.

That's a great post. I am hoping to do that with these basses. Thankfully, I don't have any gigs, or play with any musicians, that "insist" I use a certain bass. As with most of us, I tend to sound like me no matter what in playing. The gear just puts it's own signature on my sound/style.

With this fretless and the fretted I have being built, I can't imagine not being able to (eventually) find tones I like for any gig. People ask me to play with/for them and know I'll bring appropriate gear and (hopefully) play appropriate bass lines for the gig.

I don't plan on selling my Geddy Lee at this point. It's a fun bass and works great for certain things - or just for fun.

I'm anxious to get this and the future fretted into the rotation and see what happens.

I've only played for about an hour after kids went to bed. Beautiful bass. The top is amazing and the back/body is beautiful.

It plays like a dream. The set up is perfect. Very growly. Nothing as nice as a Roscoe 5 string neck.

It's obvious I haven't played fretless for a while but it'll be a great bass. Tried some older (from his fretless days) Jimmy/Jackets and it sounds great.

Getting a pretty good "upright" sound. Neck pup, full mids, add a little low and cut the high. Very growly!

I think this has been a thing for me in the past. I'm going to really try to do this with this and my soon to be built fretted Roscoe as well. I'm a bit of a control freak and have a hard time letting myself be led. Hopefully that will change with these basses and my attempt at this attitude.
