Someone mentioned that this top looks like something you're see on a Fodera. So I went the the Fodera site and grabbed this:

Emperor 5

And here is Roscoe

Pretty similar...

Finally gigged this bass at church. Amazing. Sounded awesome and another bass player said it felt great - didn't even miss the frets. Just fell right into playing. The only knock on this bass is that it's a little heavier than I would have ideally. Hopefully the 4" wide strap will help with that.

My 4" Italia straps are lifesavers for long gigs. The only bass I have that I would consider fairly light is my JM. My other two Roscoes have a little heft to them (which I personally don't mind a bit). My shoulder doesn't bother me one bit after long rehearsals or 4 hour gigs. With a narrower strap, my shoulder would ache a bit after a gig.

Glad to hear you're digging the bass. I still need to get up there to try it out one of these days! I'm kicking around ordering a fretless, but I gotta make sure I get the right pickup configuration. (actually, I just wanna check out your bass)

You don't need an excuse to come up and try it out. You are welcome any time!

The JB pickup placement is killer.

Second Sunday at church with this bass. Amazing. Had a new Radial JDI and Westone UM-2 IEM's today and it sounded even better. When we get the new Presonus board so I can do my own mix and eq my monitor send with my iPhone it'll be the icing on the cake.

Too many more weeks with a fretless and I may not need the Koa fretted that's being built for me right now. Going from mwah to almost fretted sounding in the same song by simply changing right hand placement and attack is awesome.

Cool Steve! I found that if I want a more fretted sound on my fretless I just kill any vibrato with the left hand. I've even been know to break out the pick and palm mute to get a nice clicky clack sound.

No rules for me brother!

There was a time where I was 97% fretless. I'd pull out the fretted for one or two tunes where I wanted a more traditional slap tone but beyond that it stayed in the bag. If your chops are up, it certainly can be done and get addicting because you can actually do a vibrator that doesn't always go sharp.

I'm sure I'll find a use for my fretted () but I sure am enjoying playing fretless and look forward to having two great basses at my disposal.

Hey, shouldn't you be taking progress pictures of Koa topped basses?

I actually did make use of the freedom to vibrate yesterday...at church anyway.

When I read that post above I was just waiting for somebody to take the bait.

Why would I want to interrupt Reed while he's in the middle of working on it? That would delay completion that much further....

By all means, let him work.

It'll be in the finish process in another day or two at the most, then it will be photo time!

Next? (ears perk up) Do tell....

I'll be watching FB for some pics at the end of the week.

Well, when I get bored I think about what might be next.

Century Standard goes without saying - my preferred body style. I'm thinking some kind of "jazz" replacement type bass. Probably an ash body with either a quilt maple or maybe bubinga top. Wenge board. Black hardware. Bart electronics. As it's a "jazz" replacement bass, I'm thinking maybe that 3J pup placement. Get a sort of 60's and 70's jazz placement in one bass - even a bit of MM.

It'll probably be a bit before I order a 3rd Roscoe, heck, I'm getting by just fine with my one fretless, but it's fun to look and scheme...
