I've been intrigued by the Roscoe Audere for some time now. As most of you know, I was one of the ones that was greatly disappointed when Roscoe dropped the Demeter.
We'll I've got to say that I'm very impressed! The combination of the 3 position switch and the 2 mid bands really gives you some nice useable options. I'm equally impressed by the very functional pickup blend control. Most blend controls on other pre's function as a fancy 3 position switch but this one really works and provides nice useable blends of the bridge and neck p/u's!
Here's the spec's on the bass that I just acquired:
LG 3005
Solid Burl Maple body
Natural finish
Audere 3ZB/R
Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups
Wedge neck (Cocobolo center, Chechen stringers)
Cocobolo fingerboard
Diamondwood nut
Black hardware
...and of course a few pic's since only seeing is believing around here!

I'm one that really didn't like the Audere so I'm glad that you enjoy it. Hopefully I will be back in the Roscoe club soon...

I've been more than happy with my 3ZB(/R) and will be inclined to include it with any future bass purchases, especially the next Roscoe.
How do you like the myrtle body Joe? Is this the first one you've had with it as a body wood? I know you've had a lot of combinations for sure. |

The body wood is actually burl maple (although it really looks a lot like myrtle; it also looks much better in person! ). I've owned one other solid maple bodied Roscoe, but it was spalted and very light (the brother of Bassos'). This one is a bit heavier.
I much prefer the sound of the maple body to the ash (with Nord p/u's). I never really got use to the sound of the Nords/ash with my Eden amp, although it sounded much better with my Thunderfunk.
I was afraid that it might be too bright but it's much smoother sounding than the ash. It think that the Cocobolo wedge neck and FB probably help warm it up a bit too.
I didn't think that I'd purchase another LG but I really dig the look of the straight p/u's on the LG body style. |

Anyway, I have experience of my own with a maple body, and I did like it. I'm sure the neck construction is doing what you say for the sound. I always liked the tone of cocobolo fingerboards. |

The Audere really does the fretless emulation well! The 2 bands of mids allows you to really zero in on some great fretless tones. I giged with it this morning and I'm back in love with the Eden.
So many sounds are available with the Audere although you do have to experiment with it a bit.
For quick tone changes the 3-way switch is really great. I thought that I'd probably install a coil tap switch but after playing around with the 4-bands and 3-way toggle I don't think that I'll need it (plus the single coil sound has such weak output).
As others have stated, the Audere is much more polite than the Bart and Aggie pre's but it still can't do the Demeter (although the only thing that I miss about the Demeter is the glassy highs).
I believe that this Roscoe is by far the most versatile sound of any that I've owned and that's primarily due to the Audere pre (and I believe that I've just begun tapping into all of the sounds it can produce). |

I've heard the Audere in other basses and didn't like it all too. I wonder if it's been tweaked since the Roscoe that you heard it in or if maybe it was just the wrong combination of woods.
This one can be totally neutral sounding or very aggressive if tweaked. I think it really provides a nice extension to the natural tone of the bass (woods). |

Sure, you're always welcome to drop by! I think that you'll really dig this bass too. I think that I've found the perfect blend of ash and Spanish cedar......it's called maple !
You've got to check out the Roscoe Audere too. Very versatile pre. |

Gotta jump in on this thread!
Congrats on a satisfying Roscoe acquisition!
+1 on the Audere compliments!! I have loved my Audere preamp in my Roscoe. It makes it a highly versatile instrument. In fact I'm thinking about dropping on in my fretless!
Joe, let's have another look at the back - how do YOU see that figuring/inclusion?

The inclusion on the rear is actually real cool looking in person. It's got like a thousand shades of brown and has a cool 3-D look to it.
It doesn't photograph well though (actually pic's don't do the bass justice at all. The bass has feathering, burl, flame, quilt and spalt)
It's like an exotic birth mark! |

I guess, worst case scenario would be that I can replace the Audere with an Aguilar OBP-3.
What was it you didn't like about the Audere in it, if you don't mind me asking?? |

Wow - that is killer, another Roscoe-go-round then
That looks like wicked combo - I too dig the straight p'ups.

The Thyua burl with the wenge finger board that came from BHB. That would have to be coming from Bay Area basses and my very good friend Gene! Great guy to deal with! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
