Just as recap, my specs are
SKB-3005 #5714
Swamp Ash Body
Exhibition Quilt Maple Top
Standard neck + Pau Ferro FB
Nord DC5's + Aggie OBP3 w/ [Series/Single/Parallel switch for each p-up]
Initial thoughts of the bass when I got it was... "oh my I FINALLY have the bass in my hands" and I was actually so excited I needed to have my friend take pictures cuz I couldn't keep the camera still in my hands, haha. The first two weeks with the bass were great. I really liked the finger-style tone and thought the slap/pluck tone was a little different than what I was used to, but I still dug it. After that, however, it started getting not so great cuz the strings pretty much died after 2 weeks or so, so I was sad, but replaced them with DR BB's, recommended by Gard, and sure enough... loved the bass after the switch. The finger-style tone was still good enough with the dead stockies, but the slap tone wasn't bearable [to me], so the switch to the DR BB's was more than welcomed by me and the church praise team .
As far as description of tone, like pretty much everyone says about Roscoe's, it does seem to cut really well played live. People that I wouldn't expect to hear comments about bass, commented that they noticed a difference. I really love how growly the bass can get when I dig in too. I haven't had the chance to play with the switches too much even still since I've only played the bass during service twice since I've gotten it. I don't really know what else to say about the tone of the bass since everyone else describes Roscoe's so much better than I can really put into words.
One thing though, that I have to say, is that notes played on the G seem a little "detached" or I guess I could say "thin" compared to the rest of the strings, but it seems to go away when I roll off the treble halfway on the Aggie pre, so not really a gripe, but just to throw it out there to see if anyone else with the Aggie pre or Nord DC5's experienced something like that. [Not really sure what to attribute this to]
[These pictures were taken a week or two after getting the bass, and these aren't the first set of pictures I took. The first set was taken with a standard digital camera and I didn't like the way they came out, so I took these with a friends Nikon D40 with the standard lens.]
Thanks for looking!

I really like the finish!
I've got the Nord/Aggie combo (in a 3006) and haven't noticed what you're stating on the "G" string (or "C" string either for that matter).
You may want to try adjusting the treble side of the p/u's a bit and also maybe try a different set of strings (or at least a different "G" string). |

Even with the thing with the G sounding the way it does, I like the DR BB's too much to try anything else haha. I'll definitely give the pup height some adjustment though to see if that'll fix it. The G sounds fine if I cut the treble a good amount, but it's just that I never had to do that before, so I was just wondering .

Find out what the thing does!!!! | Yea, I HAVE been messing around with the switches and combining different modes and what not at home, but haven't been able to put them to use when I play at Church since I've only had the chance to play with the Roscoe twice since getting it mid Sept.
I played the first time with the bass set in Series mode through our church SWR head and Carvin 4x10 cab and the second time was in Parallel mode through my recently acquired Thunderfunk TFB550-B and with the same Carvin 4x10 cab.
Both times were recorded with the entire band and I can't say all things were equal between the sets since it was through different heads but it seems in Series the bass cut a little bit better, but the bass was super present [definitely not a bad thing when playing praise] and it was no where near muffled sounding . You could tell there was a lot of bass, but you could clearly hear what notes I was playing.
The second recording [Pups in Parallel] didn't come out AS well, because I used the Thunderfunk for the first time that sunday and we tried blending with the TF Post-DI and with a Mic to the cab. The volume, through the recording, of my bass at normal playing volume wasn't as distinct [it seemed] maybe due to the lower output in volume. In the recording, the parts where I would dig in when the band would get louder, the bass got really growly, but then again it might be just that... because I dug in more, and not due to the pickup setting haha.
I say that only because I don't think I've become accustomed to the tonal differences between the settings [besides the significant output loss when switching from Series to either Single coil or Parallel mode].
Another thing I have to add is even though there is the huge output drop in Single coil mode, when I bring the volume level back up to where it was when playing in Series, the bass does seem to have more growl [to me] maybe because the fret noise becomes present.
There are actually too many things I need to try with the switching for both pups. Hahah I can't believe I actually have too many options to choose from now. I have yet to really try out different combinations like front series, back parallel, or front parallel, back series, etc.... 9 switching configurations I can choose from excluding blending the pups sheesh hahah.

When you go to single coil, you're right you will get a drop in output. What I used to do is boost the bass and tweak the mids to the room and that worked out great!
Man, that is a beautiful bass! I hope you have more opportunities to enjoy it.
