Interestingly enough, there is a case company called
SKB. They make cases for all kinds of instruments: horns, keyboards etc. They make a bass case which is kind nice for travelling. It's a heavy duty plastic molded shell, with some foam padding inside, but it's made to take a regular gig bag for added protection. and when you get to your destination, you have your gig bag for local needs. The case has a couple of handles and wheels at one end. And it's nowhere as heavy as those metal bound "flightcases". I got an SKB case years ago, have used it multiple times, it's holding up great, and I've never had any instrument damage. Highly recommended.
