Fretless Strings

Hey Fellas,

I'm getting ready to restring my SKB 3005 fretless and was curious what you all like to use and what your opinions are concerning tonal differences in strings for fretless application.

I have some metal round wounds that were on the bass when I bought it used and I was thinking of trying something different to give me a more upright sound yet I am a bit hesitant regarding flatwound strings.

BTW- The reason I'm not going out and buying different strings is because here in Tucson where I live, there is no one that actually stocks 35" scale strings so that is a special order item. Can you believe it?!

Any Suggestions?

Thanks again,

Doug

You may try Smith Compressors, or SIT Silencers.

They are both at giving you the best of both worlds. The Smith are closer to a rounds - the Silencers are closer to flats.

I also like Sadowsky flats - they are quite bright for a flat, and have great definition.
