Fun with specs...you picks 'em!

So...what do you think about the fingerboard for this one?

Bolivian rosewood, purpleheart w/spalted sapwood, ebony???

Let me know what you think.

I like the purpleheart with spalted sapwood for a red bass. I saw one of these where the purpleheart was close to the same color as the top, and it was killer. Ebony would be my number two choice. (for looks, anyway)

First things first Jay....NORDSTRANDS!

Okay, I'm assuming it's an ash body, so let's put macc ebony on it or ziricote for an evil red/black vibe. If we're going to do a lot of slap and funky R&B on our "lab rat", then we need maple on there.

For a preamp, I would do an Audere for the ebony/ziricote combo to give it that smooth jazz/studio/ultra uptown thang.
If we're going to slap it silly and compete with loud keyboardists and guitarists, then I would put in an Aguilar OBP-3.

Black hardware......no doubt.

That one is hot...

Definitely needs either a dark ebony board or a maple board.

I think if you go maple than you need either a bart/bart or a nordstrand/aggie combo. (I'm falling more for that bart/bart setup lately)

If you go ebony than a bart/bart or nordstrand/aggie or audere combo would be nice. I am not too fond of the audere which is why I'm not advocating that whole heartedly.

I'm usually a huge ebony fan, but this bass would work really nicely with the purpleheart. How about the lesser chosen combo of Bart/Roscoe pickups with OBP-3 for the electronics? It's a great sound for a fretted Roscoe IMO, and would work nicely with these woods for an all around sort of bass

Okay, I'll take Xavid's ebony or maple suggestion - and Jeff's Bart/Aggie preamp combo.

I don't know about purple with that beautiful red....

Ebony or Ziricote board!!!! Maybe with a streak of sapwood.

Wenge/yellowheart/wenge neck

Nordstrand pick-ups with quilt maple covers the same color as the body (ala F Bass)

Audere or Bart pre

recessed strap locks

What about that pink wood that was in a recent posting?

Then again, the body looks like it has some black mottling through it, and, if it has black hardware, the maple is out of the question. Ebony all the way - with DR Black Beauties, of course (even fretless, perhaps??) "Stealth" fingerings...

Hey T.B.
I like the pink ivory fingerboard on that 6-string. I think it works because of the cordovan tint on the body. It really looks classy together.

If it was a 5-string, I would be doing some serious financial evaluations....and some quick explaining to my wife!

Whatever you do... if the fingerboard/neck wood is dark like the bass put some gold/black hardware on that beast!

Hey Gard... ever gotten a request for a black bridge with gold inserts and black tuning keys with gold shafts and so on?

Peace,

A decision has been made, and the TBer who chose correctly gets the bass for free.

Well...maybe not, but I appreciate all of the creative suggestions. I'm coming back to this well when I get stumped in the future. Thanks for the input!

We'll have to see which electronics Jay went for. If Bart/Ag, then I think I win since I suggested both fingerboard and electronics

P.S. Jay: if you really don't want this bass in stock, you can go ahead and honour that freebie - I don't mind
