GC LG 4 score!!!

So, I thought it was in the bag with the SKB-3006 fretless from the Low End, but it didn't work out.
Then yesterday I came across an LG-3000 4 string at GC.
(go to Guitar Center's web site, under the used gear search, type in Roscoe).
It's on it's way to me!!!!!
They said it's darn near perfect condition.
Serial number was 41XX, can't remember exactly. I'll post it later and the experts can throw the exact details at me.

Plus I used my 10% off coupon- scored it for $1215!!!!!!!!

Thought it was a pretty stinkin' good price!

Wow!
It was just there about an hour ago.
They must have pulled it.

Anyway, it's cherryburst with a quilt/flame top, the guy at GC said it was a mahogny body. Looks like a spalted purple heart fingerboard (looks like the one on my SKB3006)- he didn't know for sure exactly what the fingerboard was.

Great score! GC does have good used Roscoe deals occasionally. Now we can have an LG jam :-).

And please record that jam so the rest of us can steal your licks - err, gain inspiration from your playing.

Congratulations, man! Terrific deal, and I can't wait to hear you work your magic on it.

What the hell is it with me?!?!???

So, I'm finishing up the deal with GC when the sales guy tells me "by the way, there is a small crack in the headstock..."
***?!?!?????

Long story short, I talked to their "tech" who says it appears to have been fixed already and the crack isn't open and actually has finish/sealer over it.

So, I'm thinking this one through a bit.

Talked to Gard about it as well. Says headstock repairs if done right, are pretty much a non-issue.

So, for $1200 I'm not sure if it's still a good deal or not.
Plus going in to it that was the agreed price and they're not willing to budge anymore on it.
I get the 30 day return. So all I would be out is shipping if I sent it back.

I dunno.......

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear about this.

My two cents...meaning, this and $4 will get you a cup of coffee...

Pass. Not because $1,200 isn't a good deal. IMO it's a GREAT deal. Roscoes, for whatever reason, seem to be very undervalued on the used market. I'd pass because these guys are sharks-selling-snake-oil. $1,200 was the agreed price for a bass without a headstock issue & repair. If they'd disclosed that FIRST, and you agreed on $1,200...cool. But to mention it afterward...I just don't like it. To me, a bass is an emotional purchase. You want to feel good about the transaction as well as the instrument itself. I just fear you may regret the experience.

Bottom line - if you're really Jonesing for a four-string Roscoe, consider this one more seriously, even to the point where return shipping is the only issue. But, if you're looking for the right Roscoe - fretless, different tone woods that what you've got, yada yada...I'd suggest that you pass on this one, and that the right one is still out there. Good luck!

.... What Jerry said.

I got lucky on a used Roscoe and the dude was on the level. I am not a fan of GC, or their practices. If you are not in dire need, I think you may want to pass.

Good luck!

The crack may be a total non-issue though. And all you'd be out is $25 shipping if it ended up being an issue.

That's kinda where I'm at really.
I may do it. I dunno. A chance to "rent" one for a month if you look at it like that.

We'll see.

Plus I just talked to a good friend of mine, Michael Franks of Michael Franks Guitars (super high end luthier of acoustic guitars) and he said to get it and he could take a look at it. Re-repair it and you wouldn't really even notice it if I so choose.

I'm gonna sleep on it.

Well, it's on it's way to me.
Got it for $1030.

Figured it was a good price.

Honestly, even if I have to get it re-repaired, a US hand made bass for that price!???
C'mon, I think I did alright!

I'd have gone for it, too. For that kinda money, you'd have been stupid not to do it, IMO.
